Right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) obstruction caused by sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a rare observation. We describe a successful case of valve-sparing root replacement using reimplantation technique for RVOT obstruction by a large right coronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm in a 76-year-old man. In the pathological examination, the elastic fibers of the medial layer were defective not only in the wall of the aneurysmal Valsalva sinus but also in the remaining two sinus walls. Our experience illustrated that valve-sparing root replacement can be an effective procedure in such a case.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a hereditary disorder with numerous pathophysiological effects, some specifically creating elastic dysfunction in cardiovascular organs. Quantum confinement can dramatically slow down electron-phonon relaxation in nanoclusters. Known as the phonon bottleneck, the effect remains elusive. Using a state-of-the-art time-domain ab initio approach, we model the observed bottleneck in CdSe quantum dots and show that it occurs under quantum Zeno conditions. Decoherence in the electronic subsystem, induced by elastic electron-phonon scattering, should be significantly faster than inelastic scattering. Idiopathic Infantile Arterial Calcification (IIAC) is a rare syndrome of unknown cause characterized by disruption and calcification of the internal elastic laminae of fetal arteries with calcium deposits leading to fibrosis and occlusion of the arteries. The diagnosis is often made at post-mortem examination. However, in a few cases it has been detected prenatally as in this case. We describe the second case of annular atrophic lichen planus. The annular configuration of the lesions resulted from peripheral enlargement with simultaneous central clearing. Histology showed features of lichen planus in the active border of the lesion and a pattern of resolved lichen planus in its center. Two women suffered from aortic dissection during the third term of pregnancy. The first one, 37 years old, died from a sudden and intractable cardiovascular shock at the end of pregnancy, but the fetus was saved by cesarean. The diagnosis was made post mortem. In the second case a faster diagnosis and a slower development of the aortic dissection allowed, during the 29th week of pregnancy, a surgical treatment after cesarean saving both the mother's and newborn's life. The histological examination in both cases showed only non specific alterations of the collagenous and the elastic fibres.

We report a case of idiopathic arterial calcification in a stillborn. As usually noted in this rare entity, the pregnancy was complicated by a polyhydramnios. The postmortem examination showed generalized arterial calcification, periarticular calcific deposits, and a large pleural hemorrhage.
