Efficacy and Safety of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Biologic Treatment in Moderate to Severe Atopic Dermatitis: Protocol for a Prospective Observational Real-World Study.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing skin disorder that significantly impairs patients' quality of life. Long-term biologic therapy provides durable efficacy for AD, but raises concerns related to costs, safety, and withdrawal-associated relapse. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history in AD treatment and is usually integrated with biologic treatment to achieve complementary benefits and provide comprehensive care for patients with AD. However, high-quality evidence supporting its real-world efficacy remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to collect

Real-world impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on the risk of symptomatic urinary tract infections in patients with cardiometabolic and kidney diseases: a prospective, multicentre, observational cohort study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors were originally introduced for glycaemic management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and now provide substantial cardiovascular and kidney benefits. Although their association with genital mycotic infections is well established, whether SGLT2 inhibitor initiation increases the risk of symptomatic urinary tract infections (UTIs) remains uncertain, particularly within the cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome framework. This protocol describes a prospective multicentre observational study designed to address this clinically important

The SMART-Youth study: protocol for a longitudinal prospective cohort study to identify disease-associated and lifestyle-associated cardiovascular risk factors for preclinical atherosclerosis in children with a chronic condition.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular risk assessment and management in the paediatric population is a relatively uncharted territory. However, atherogenesis starts during childhood, making childhood and adolescence an important window of opportunity to prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) later in life. An emerging group at risk for early ASCVD are children with chronic conditions. This paper describes the rationale, design and methods for the Secondary Manifestations of ARTerial diseases in the Young with a chronic condition (SMART-Youth) study. This study aims to identify disease-a

Midodrine for Sepsis Treatment and Early Vasopressor Weaning (MID-STEP): protocol for a pragmatic randomised clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Sepsis is a global health priority with nearly 50 million cases annually. Cardiovascular dysfunction is common, frequently manifesting as hypotension that persists despite fluid resuscitation. Most affected patients require the use of intravenous (IV) vasoactive agents, typically necessitating intensive care unit (ICU)-level monitoring, invasive interventions and contributing substantially to healthcare costs. Midodrine, an oral alpha-1 agonist approved for orthostatic hypotension, has increasingly been used off-label as a vasopressor-sparing (reducing IV vasopressor use) strateg

Global practices in adapting cognitive behavioral therapy for ethnoracial populations with substance use disorders: a scoping review of adaptation strategies, treatment outcomes, and geographic gaps.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs), yet standard protocols may have limited cultural relevance for ethnoracially diverse populations. Cultural adaptation may enhance the fit and relevance of interventions; however, the scope, characteristics, and outcomes of ethnoracial adaptations of CBT for SUD remain underexamined. This scoping review mapped the global evidence on ethnoracially adapted CBT for SUDs, including strategies, implementation characteristics, and treatment outcomes. METHODS: Following PRISMA-ScR guideli

Same Fragments, Different Diseases: Analysis of Identical tRNA Fragments Across Diseases Utilizing Functional and Abundance-Based Databases.

Background/Objectives: Transfer RNA-derived fragments (tRFs) are small non-coding RNAs increasingly implicated in gene regulation and disease, yet their target specificity and disease relevance remain poorly understood. This is an exploratory study that investigates the phenomenon of identical tRF sequences reported in distinct disease contexts and evaluates the consistency between experimental findings and predictions from both target-based and abundance-based tRF databases. Methods: Five tRFs with identical sequences across at least two peer-reviewed disease studies were selected from a rece

Aspirin as a chemopreventive agent for cutaneous melanoma: a literature review.

Rising melanoma rates have spurred interest in preventive strategies. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), particularly aspirin, show potential in reducing cancer risks. NSAIDs act on cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, impacting COX-2 associated with inflammation and cancer progression. This paper explores aspirin's role in cutaneous melanoma prevention, elucidating its mechanisms and acknowledging varying literature outcomes. Rather than providing conclusive recommendations, the review emphasizes the influence of individual factors, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on aspirin's compl

C-terminal agrin fragment as a biomarker of muscle wasting and weakness: a narrative review.

Ageing is accompanied by an inexorable loss of muscle mass and functionality and represents a major risk factor for numerous diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. This progressive loss of muscle mass and function may also result in the insurgence of a clinical syndrome termed sarcopenia, exacerbated by inactivity and disease. Sarcopenia and muscle weakness yield the risk of falls and injuries, heavily impacting on health and social costs. Thus, screening, monitoring and prevention of conditions inducing muscle wasting and weakness are essential to improve
