To investigate the aetiology of hydatidiform mole, laminin-1 expression was determined in human villous tissues obtained from normal pregnancies (n = 17) and complete hydatidiform moles (n = 10). Indirect immunofluorescent staining was performed to detect laminin-1, and Northern blot analysis was performed to assess expression of laminin mRNA. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Celiac disease is a permanent gluten intolerance strongly associated with HLA class II antigens and possibly showing milder changes of mucosal architecture. Ten patients with symptoms suggesting celiac disease and serum antiendomysium antibodies with normal mucosal architecture were studied.

We studied the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (GH) treatment in 6 prepubertal children with achondroplasia. The patients' age ranged from 2 11/12 to 8 5/12 years and the GH dose was of 0.1 IU/kg/day subcutaneously. Auxological assessments and bone age determinations were performed 6 months before, at the beginning, and after 6 and 12 months of therapy. The effects of exogenous testosterone on the haemostatic system were studied in a group of 32 healthy men undergoing a clinical trial of hormonal male contraception. OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and efficacy of early abortion by administration of methotrexate and misoprostol vs administration of misoprostol alone.

We have studied the kinetics of the N-terminal peptide of type III procollagen (NP3P) after BMT as a marker for the development of hepatic fibrosis in veno-occlusive disease (VOD). Four patients with clinically apparent VOD were retrospectively assayed and demonstrated a very high NP3P level. NP3P was also prospectively monitored at the beginning of conditioning and every week (8 patients) or every other day (14 patients) from the day of BMT (day 0) to day +28. Procollagen-I carboxylterminal extension peptide (PICP) was determined in the serum and dialysate of 26 continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients and in the serum of 11 healthy controls.
