Developmental Unity and Cultural Variation in Forms of Metarepresentational False Belief Understanding.

Around age four, children in urban, post-industrial societies begin to understand the subjectivity of beliefs and other mental states: they can be true or false, and they are aspectual, representing situations under specific descriptions. These two insights have been found to emerge in tandem, suggesting a shift toward a metarepresentational Theory of Mind. However, as evidence for this shift comes primarily from formally educated, urban, post-industrial societies, its broader generalizability remains speculative. Moreover, standard pretense-heavy false belief tasks may bias conclusions drawn

High heat exposure and climate anxiety among rural women in Tamil Nadu: health and social impacts.

BACKGROUND: Extreme heat events pose a significant threat to human health, affecting both physical and mental well-being. Women in rural areas suffer from heat exposure due to their gender-specific responsibilities and restricted cooling access, which elevates their climate-related psychological distress. This study examines the intersection between heat exposure, physiological strain, and heat-related mental health burdens among rural women in Tamil Nadu, India. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between April and August 2025 across 15 rural villages in Tamil Nadu, India, among 3

Spike on a bike: mobile harm reduction in action.

BACKGROUND: Access to harm reduction services remains a significant challenge in rural areas, where geographic and structural barriers can prevent people who use drugs from engaging with fixed-site support. In response to declining service use during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dyfed Drugs and Alcohol Service (DDAS), led by Barod, a Welsh harm reduction and treatment provider, developed a peer-led mobile intervention known as Spike on a Bike (SOAB), designed to deliver harm reduction equipment and relational support directly to service users in remote communities. METHODS: This study draws on

Cost analysis of implementing community-based mass drug administration for schistosomiasis control among adult individuals using community drug distributors in Ukerewe district council, North-Western Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Schistosomiasis is a significant public health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa, with Tanzania having the second-highest disease burden. While mass drug administration (MDA) with praziquantel is effective, high-risk groups including adults living in remote rural areas are often neglected. To achieve schistosomiasis elimination by 2030, it is important to expand mass treatment to groups left out of interventions. The five-year Ukerewe Schistosomiasis Control Program has expanded the MDA campaigns to include the adult population through a community-based MDA implemented by community d

Factors associated with depression among tuberculosis patients with HIV co-infection in rural community Thailand.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a significant comorbidity among patients with tuberculosis (TB) and HIV co-infection. Factors associated with depression in this vulnerable population remain inadequately characterised. This study had two primary objectives: (1) to identify demographic, clinical, and psychological factors including rumination associated with clinically significant depressive symptoms among TB patients in rural Thailand; and (2) to estimate the effect of HIV co-infection on depression risk using propensity score methods to address confounding. METHODS: This retrospective propensity sco

Trust-Building Across Levels of Care: A Conceptual Framework for Nursing Practice.

This paper adapts Anderson and Griffith's Trust-Building Process in Healthcare Organizations Framework to a nurse-led framework, illustrating how trust influences engagement in preventive health among structurally marginalized populations. Using cervical cancer screening among Appalachian women as an exemplar, the framework conceptualizes trust-building as a multilevel process operating at intrapersonal, interpersonal, and institutional levels. By situating trust as both a relational and structural construct, this adaptation underscores nurses' essential role in cultivating trustworthiness wit

An online platform to increase access to gait rehabilitation for underserved Parkinson's disease communities.

Compensation strategies are a key element of gait rehabilitation in Parkinson's disease, ideally requiring involvement of specialized therapists. However, access to allied healthcare is not universally guaranteed. We evaluated an online platform to deliver compensation strategies for gait in 25 individuals with Parkinson's in rural Brazil. After three weeks of use, median patient-reported impact of gait impairment on daily activities [rated on visual analogue scale, 0-10] decreased from 7 to 4 (p < 0.001), without reported falls. This suggest that the platform is a safe and effective tool for

Rainfall shocks and child health in rural Pakistan.

In utero exposure to income shocks has a lasting effect on child well-being. In an agricultural economy, fluctuations in rainfall directly affect household income. In this paper, we investigate the short- and long-run impact of pre-pregnancy, prenatal, and early-life exposure to fluctuations in rainfall on height for a sample of 2290 children in rural Pakistan. Given the widespread canal irrigation system prevalent in the country, we also investigate how fluctuations in river water flows affect child health. We find that fluctuations in rainfall during the pre-pregnancy period have the most la
