Glioblastomas are notorious for their resistance to ionizing radiation and chemotherapy. We hypothesize that this resistance to ionizing radiation is due, in part, to alterations in antioxidant enzymes. Here, we show that rat and human glioma cells overexpress the antioxidant enzyme peroxiredoxin II (Prx II). Glioma cells in which Prx II is decreased using shRNA exhibit increased hyperoxidation of the remaining cellular Prxs, suggesting that the redox environment is more oxidizing. Patterns of red muscle strain and activation were examined at three positions along the body (0.42, 0.61 and 0.72 L, where L is total body length) and correlated with simultaneous measurements of midline kinematics during steady swimming (approx. 1.0 L s(-1)) in the leopard shark Triakis semifasciata. In this study, we provide evidence that the 33-residue carboxyl-terminal (Ct) region of the human erythrocyte chloride/bicarbonate exchanger, band 3, binds carbonic anhydrase II (CAII). Immunofluorescence showed that tomato lectin-mediated clustering of band 3 in ghost membranes caused a similar clustering of CAII, indicating an in situ association. In the current study, a modafinil (MO)-based co-crystal of MO-BA with benzoic acid (BA) as the co-former was prepared. INTRODUCTION: Cholestatic pruritus is common in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), adversely affecting quality of life. This study aimed to establish the within-patient meaningful change threshold (MCT) for the Worst Itch Numerical Rating Scale (WI-NRS) in patients with PBC and pruritus. Determining MCTs for patient-reported outcomes is crucial for interpreting treatment efficacy in clinical trials.
