BACKGROUND: Destruction of the thumb secondary to trauma presents a much more significant influence on daily living than do injuries to the other digits. Various surgical techniques contribute to repair distal defects of the fingers, especially thumb reconstruction.

Using the conclusions of the previous article concerning the therapeutic indications for handling hypoplastic thumb, we suggest an amendment to the current Blauth classification. This alteration is based on the management of this congenital anomaly, whereas the Blauth classification describes the morphological characteristics of the malformation. It appears for us more usable in practice by its easiness to be memorized.

We present a patient with a neck burn scar contracture. A parascapular free flap is used to re-surface the cervical defect, while the resultant donor-site defect is reconstructed by a freestyle pedicled thoracodorsal artery perforator flap. With the introduction of a freestyle pedicled perforator flap, large-sized donor-site defects of the parascapular flap can be closed easily and safely with minimal donor-site morbidity. BACKGROUND: Full-thickness burns involving the antecubital area result in severe contractures. Functional impairment is inevitable if the affected areas are not managed properly. Proper treatment requires complete release and radical excision of the scar tissue, followed by reconstruction using durable tissue that will not contract during long-term follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To explore a new surgical procedure for vaginal reconstruction with pedicled deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap.
METHODS: Since June 2007, 6 cases underwent vaginal reconstruction, including five congenital vaginal absence and one immediately after total vaginal resection due to carcinoma. Intensive CT scans were performed preoperatively for perforator selection. The DIEP flaps were designed vertically on the anterior abdominal wall and transferred for vaginal reconstruction.

Total ear amputation is common, and management can necessitate different procedures, especially microsurgical anastomosis. PURPOSE: To look at the presentation and management of labial hypertrophy in 2 young adolescents.

MAIN FINDINGS: We present two cases, a 10-year-old girl with concerns regarding a hypertrophied labia minora and a 12-year-old girl with spina bifida and difficulty in performing intermittent catheterization because of the hypertrophied labia. We discuss a simple technique for reduction labioplasty and the different surgical options.
CONCLUSION: Hypertrophy of one or both labia minora can lead to functional, social, esthetic and sexual problems in females of all ages.
