BACKGROUND: Extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma are mostly localized in the gastrointestinal tract. A small number of these lymphoma arise from specialized lymphoid cells, the so-called mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). We describe one case with a metachronous occurrence of a MALT-type lymphoma of the conjunctiva of both eyelids and supraglottic larynx.

PURPOSE: Most children with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma will survive their disease. However, conventional photon-radiation treatment, as part of multimodality therapy, results in varying degrees of long-term functional and cosmetic side effects. Recent major surgery is an exclusion criterion for thrombolysis. Six patients with acute ischemic stroke underwent intra-arterial thrombolysis after recent open heart surgery without clinically significant bleeding complications, although one patient developed a small, asymptomatic cerebellar hemorrhage. Intra-arterial thrombolysis may be an option for patients with cerebral embolism in the perioperative period.

Interstitial pneumonitis (IP) is a serious complication in polymyositis/dermatomyositis (PM/DM), leading to significant morbidity or mortality. Relapsing Polychondritis (RP) is a systemic disorder characterized by an inflammatory process involving predominantly cartilaginous structures and the cardiovascular system. Lymphadenopathy is a very uncommon finding of RP. We report on a patient affected by RP presenting with lymphadenopathy of Castleman-like type quickly responsive to corticosteroids. The bronchial involvement and the evolution of the inflammatory process in a 3-year follow-up has been documented by computed tomography of the chest.

BACKGROUND: Acute suppurative thyroiditis is an increasingly rare entity, accounting for less than 0.1% of thyroid surgery. This is the first report in the literature of acute thyroiditis causing a unilateral reversible vocal cord paralysis.
METHODS: A 41-year-old woman was initially seen with a unilateral vocal cord paralysis resulting from acute suppurative thyroiditis.
RESULTS: The vocal cord paralysis resolved following surgical drainage of the thyroid abscess and treatment with intravenous antibiotics.

HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: A 67-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for many years and a heavy smoker was hospitalized because of increasing dyspnoea and moderately productive cough. A case of bifrontal oligodendroglioma with bilateral posterior communicating artery aneurysms, one symptomatic and the other incidental, is presented. This is the first instance of such a combination. Clipping of the aneurysm, along with partial tumour excision, was performed at the same sitting, successfully. Literature on this association is reviewed and the pathogenesis is discussed.

We present a case of sphenoid sinus mucocele with recurrent visual disturbance on the same side. A 22-year-old female showed two episodes of visual disturbance in the left eye for 3 months, and acute retrobulbar optic neuritis was diagnosed. With corticosteroid, visual disturbance improved in 1 week. MRI and CT scans showed mucocele in the left sphenoid sinus, and left optic nerve swelling with high intensity was observed in T2-weighted MRI. No destruction of the optic canal was found. The contiguous inflammation in the optic nerve rather than compression was considered as pathogenesis.
