Serum concentrations of T4, T3, rT3 and TSH were determined before and after cessation of chronic smoking in healthy subjects. Their body weights were measured at the same intervals. Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) is a severe neurological disorder caused by vitamin B1 deficiency. The aim of the study was to analyse MRI findings typical for this disease and to evaluate the significance of their correlations with clinical symptoms. SUMMARY: An ideal method should be cheap, portable, easy to perform without extensive training, reproducible and determines patients' excess or deficit of total body water. Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) fulfils many of these criteria and can give additional information on fat and lean tissue composition.
