Pancarpal arthrodesis was performed in 21 dogs, using orthogonal (cranial/dorsal and medial) plates without postoperative rigid external coaptation. Short-term and long-term outcomes, arthrodesis progression, and complications were assessed using a retrospective review of case records and radiographs. Three of 21 (14.2%) dogs required a revision surgery: 2 had total implant explantation and 1 had a screw removed. Other complications were managed successfully medically. One of 21 (4.8%) dogs had confirmed deep surgical site infection requiring implant removal, and 4 of 21 (19%) had suspected (n

The epiphyses at the medial and lateral ends of the clavicle are small, ossify relatively late, and may not fuse until early adulthood. Because of this unique anatomy, pediatric and young adult injuries that involve the clavicle often differ from the patterns typically seen in older adults. Clavicular trauma that affects the acromioclavicular joint laterally or sternoclavicular joint medially often results in a physeal fracture and as such, can go unrecognized or be mistaken for a joint dislocation. Radiographic assessment is challenging, particularly when the epiphysis is not yet ossified. Ho

PURPOSE: Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are common. With the development of locking plates, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the proximal humerus can provide excellent clinical outcomes. The quality of fracture reduction is crucial in the locking plate fixation of proximal humeral fractures. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology and computer virtual technology assisted preoperative simulation on the reduction quality and clinical outcomes of 3-part and 4-part proximal humeral fractures.
METHOD: A retrospective comparat

BACKGROUND Open reduction and internal fixation of condyle fractures are sometimes difficult for the upper region. This report presents a case of condyle fracture at the upper neck region treated with a custom-made titanium mesh and a titanium miniplate, which makes it easy to reposition the fragment and keep it in place. CASE REPORT A 20-year-old man was injured during a soccer match and was referred to our hospital with the symptom of trismus and deviation of the mandible to the left with an opened mouth. Fracture of the right condyle neck region was diagnosed; open reduction and internal fi

PURPOSE: Peri-implant fractures (PIFs) are a concept in evolution for which different diagnostic criteria have been proposed and modified over time. They have not been extensively reported. PIFs are usually located in the distal part of previous osteosynthesis, where fragile bone is in contact with the rigid implant and are a significant complication after orthopaedic surgery, which requires careful management and treatment. This clinical study presents findings from a retrospective analysis of PIF's, providing description of characteristics and outcomes. They provide information about the ass

PURPOSE: Matta scoring standard is one of the most frequently used postoperative imaging evaluations for acetabular fracture reduction, but has obvious shortcomings. This study, for the first time, proposed the concept of inclined angles of acetabular quadrilateral plate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the normal range of the inclined angles in adults by digital measurement and explore the feasibility of using them to evaluate the reduction quality of acetabular quadrilateral fractures after surgery.
METHODS: Firstly, the pelvic CT three-dimensional reconstruction data of 40 hea

PURPOSE: The purpose of this historical review is to illustrate the progression and evolution of treatment for distal femur fractures.
METHODS: Scientific literature was searched for descriptions of treatment for distal femur fractures to provide an in-depth overview of the topic, with emphasis on the evolution of surgical constructs used to treat these fractures.
RESULTS: Prior to the 1950s, distal femur fractures were treated nonoperatively, resulting in considerable morbidity, limb deformity, and limited function. As principles of surgical intervention for fractures emerged in the 1950s,

BACKGROUND: The present study aims to investigate the frequency of recurrence and tethering effect after only metaphyseal screw removal (sleeper plate technique) compared with the conventional complete plate removal in the treatment of lower extremity deformities with guided growth surgery.
METHODS: Seventy-two patients (107 limbs) treated by an 8-plate hemiepiphysiodesis technique around the knee joint were evaluated. After the desired correction, only metaphyseal screw was removed (sleeper plate group) in 35 limbs (25 patients), whereas both screws and plate were removed (plate removal grou

The incidence of distal femur fractures increases in the geriatric patient. The primary treatment goal in these fractures is early mobilisation to prevent secondary injuries associated with immobility. In light of the increasing spectrum of therapeutic options for postoperative fracture treatment, including double plating, nail-plate combination and distal femur replacement as postoperative treatments, weight-bearing recommendations are becoming increasingly important. The aim of this study was thus to analyse the weight-bearing recommendations and associated therapy results within the literat

We evaluated the incidence of postoperative complications following anterior locking plate fixation of distal radial fractures. We investigated whether there is an association with the patient's age, severity of the fracture or surgeon's experience. The medical records of all patients treated with anterior locking plate for a distal radial fracture between 2016 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Radiographs were evaluated regarding Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen/Orthopaedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification, Soong grade and dorsal screw prominence. Six-hundred and th

BACKGROUND: The most commonly used approach for distal radius fractures is the traditional Henry approach. However, it requires an intraoperative incision of the pronator quadratus (PQ) muscle, which results in a series of complications if the repair of the PQ fails.
AIM: The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of sparing the pronator quadratus for volar plating of the distal radius fractures.
METHODS: Seventy-six patients who suffered from distal radius fractures of types 23-B, 23-C1, and 23-C2 as per the AO Foundation and Orthopaedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classifi

BACKGROUND: Management of transcondylar fracture of the humerus in older adults remains a challenging issue in trauma surgery. Both single- and double-plate fixation are used, and the best procedure is yet to be determined. This retrospective study evaluated and compared the clinical and radiological outcomes of single- and double-plate fixation for transcondylar humeral fracture.
METHODS: This study included older adults (age >65 years) with transcondylar fractures of the humerus (AO/OTA 13A2-3; transverse, transmetaphyseal fracture) treated at our hospital between 2002 and 2019. The patient

OBJECTIVE: The stability of fractures of the middle and lower 1/3 of the displaced humeral shaft is poor, and surgery is currently the main treatment. The posterolateral approach to the upper arm has many advantages but it is not widely used in clinical applications. The aim of the study was to investigate the clinical effect of open reduction and internal fixation with a steel plate through the triceps approach in the treatment of fractures of the middle and lower 1/3 of the humerus.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 26 patients with fractures of the middle and
