Nonlinear dynamical analysis of chaos, fractal complexity, and entropy in EEG signals during music therapy in ICU burn patients.

Music therapy (MT) is known to influence brain dynamics; however, its effects on nonlinear electroencephalogram (EEG) characteristics in clinical settings remain underexplored. This study investigated how MT modulates neural complexity and frequency-specific dynamics using nonlinear time-series analysis. EEG recordings from ICU burn patients were analyzed using Higuchi's Fractal Dimension (HFD), Sample Entropy (SE), Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA), Multifractal DFA (MFDFA), Largest Lyapunov Exponent (LLE), and Permutation Entropy (PE). These features characterized changes in neural comple

Castanea sativa Flower Extract Accelerates Burn Wound Healing via Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Mechanisms in Juvenile Rats.

Background/Objectives: Burn injuries in children represent a significant clinical challenge, as current standard-of-care agents such as silver sulfadiazine (SSD) present limitations, including delayed re-epithelialization. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Castanea sativa (sweet chestnut) flower extract-rich in polyphenols and flavonoids with documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties but previously uncharacterized in burn wound healing-applied topically on second-degree burn wounds in a juvenile rat model, comparing its efficacy to SSD and

TIGAR maintains intestinal epithelial regeneration by stabilizing HMGCL and promoting β-catenin β-hydroxybutyrylation in burn-induced sepsis.

Burn-induced sepsis triggers profound intestinal injury, contributing to systemic inflammation and organ damage. Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), a major ketone body, acts as a key regulator of intestinal epithelial regeneration. Its metabolic dysregulation has been implicated in impaired cell proliferation and the maintenance of intestinal stem cells (ISCs). However, the dynamic regulatory mechanisms underlying BHB fluctuation during burn sepsis-induced intestinal injury remain elusive. In this study, we demonstrate that TIGAR expression is markedly reduced in small intestinal crypts of burn sepsi

Safety and feasibility of allogenic keratinocyte sheet application for deep second degree burn; SAFEALLOSHEET: phase I clinical trial.

AIMS: Deep second-degree burns often require autografting, but donor-site limitations highlight the need for alternative biological coverings. This study evaluated the safety and feasibility of allogeneic cultured keratinocyte sheets for acute burn wounds. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Five patients with 20-50% total body surface area burns were enrolled. A 60 cm2 wound site in each patient received the sheet, while the remaining areas were treated with standard autologous grafts. Patients were followed for 6 months. Primary endpoints were safety and feasibility; secondary endpoints included graft ta

Longitudinal Trajectories of Health-Related Quality of Life and Life Satisfaction after Major Burn Injury: A Multicenter Cohort Study.

Advances in burn care have markedly improved survival after major injuries. However, survivors often experience significant physical and psychosocial sequelae. We aimed to characterize long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among burn survivors to inform expected trajectories, rehabilitation needs, and common impairments. Adult burn survivors from a multicenter, longitudinal cohort study were stratified into 20.0%-49.9%, 50.0%-69.9%, and ≥70.0% total body surface area burn size groups. Patient-reported HRQoL and life satisfaction were assessed using validated outcome measures at disc

Pain, Distress, and Psychological Sequelae in Pediatric Burn Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Interventions Across the Care Continuum.

Pediatric burn injuries can lead to both acute procedural distress and longer-term psychological challenges, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. While physical rehabilitation is well integrated into burn care, mental health interventions remain underutilized and inconsistently applied. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate procedural and psychological strategies used to improve mental health and pain-related outcomes in pediatric burn survivors. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and Scopus was conducted for studies published from January 2000

Comparative Efficacy of Hypochlorous Acid and Mafenide Acetate in Reducing Infection Rates in Postoperative Burn Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Infection is a leading cause of mortality in patients with third-degree burns, contributing to over 75% of burn-related deaths. Despite the widespread use of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and mafenide acetate (MA) as wet dressings in burn care, direct comparisons of their effectiveness are limited. Thus, this study evaluates the relative efficacy of HOCl and MA in managing infections and improving survival outcomes in postoperative burn patients. This retrospective study included adults with second and third-degree burns who underwent excision and grafting between January 2012 and February 2024 at

Spatiotemporal characteristics and driving factors of coal-burning hotspots in Shandong Province revealed by multi-source data and machine learning.

Coal combustion emissions significantly contribute to air pollution in China, especially in the residential sector, where they are widely dispersed and poorly tracked, making accurate identification difficult for traditional methods. This study proposes a framework combining the Deep Self-Attention Fusion Model (DSAF) with the Isolation Forest algorithm (IForest) to identify coal-burning hotspots using SO2 as a tracer. The framework was applied to analyze the spatiotemporal distribution of daily SO2 concentrations at 1 km × 1 km resolution in Shandong Province from 2022 to 2024 and to identify

A quaternized chitosan-based biomimetic hydrogel: Integrating barrier and regulatory functions for post-traumatic analgesia and accelerated burn repair.

Burn wound management is plagued by inadequate pain control and high infection risks. Conventional smart hydrogels often suffer from compromised mechanical integrity, unstable adhesion, and burst drug release upon stimulation. Inspired by the sucker morphology and secretion-based adhesion of remora that withstands turbulent marine environments, we design a novel remora-inspired hydrogel dressing. It integrates quaternized chitosan (QCS), sodium p-styrene sulfonate (VBS), hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP), and a newly synthesized mimicry monomer (EI) to confer enviro

Moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) promotes healing of chronic diabetic wounds in rats by regulating inflammatory factors and autophagy.

Chronic diabetic wounds represent a major global health challenge due to their persistent and difficult-to-heal nature, imposing substantial burdens on patients. Moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO), a traditional Chinese medicine preparation, has shown therapeutic potential in treating diabetic wounds; however, its underlying mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, MEBO and recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (rb-bFGF), used as a positive control, were applied to diabetic rat wound models. Wound pathology, ultrastructures, and protein expression profiles were subs

Serotonergic Antidepressant Use After Recent Facial Burn Injury is Associated with Hypertrophic Scarring, Metabolic Complications, and Reduced Mortality.

Facial burns can cause profound psychological distress, often treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. While their psychiatric benefits are established, their impact on wound healing and long-term outcomes is less defined. This study examines associations between early serotonergic antidepressant exposure and physiological complications following facial burn injury. Adult patients with second- or third-degree facial burns (2010-2025) were identified in the TriNetX US Collaborative Network. Those prescribed antidepressants within one
