Microsurgical evaluation of the pterional approach to aneurysms of the distal basilar circulation.

The microsurgical correlates the pterional approach to the distal basilar circulation were evaluated in 20 cases of posterior circulation aneurysms, 50 human cadaver dissections, and a variety of other intracranial surgical lesions. The pterional approach permitted successful clipping of the aneurysm in 13 of 15 basilar bifurcation aneurysms, 1 of 2 basilar-posterior cerebral aneurysms, and 2 of 3 basilar-superior cerebellar aneurysms. In each of the failed attempts via the pterional approach, the subtemporal route ultimately resulted in proper clip application. The interposition of the poster…

The role of lymphocyte-dependent antibody in kidney transplantation.

The lymphocyte-dependent antibody (LDA) assay has been used in parallel with the microlymphocytotoxicity test detecting complement-dependent antibody (CDA) in 100 cadaver kidney transplant recipients, in order to assess the role of the LDA phenomenon in the rejection of human allografts. In 15 cases, acid eluates were prepared from the kidney graft after rejection or at autopsy and tested in parallel with pre- and post-transplantation sera. The results indicate a marked increase in sensitivity of LDA assay compared with the standard microlymphocytotoxicity test. In 12 patients the pretransplan…

The work-flow of three-dimensional visualization of extended endoscopic endonasal approaches using frame extraction.

Endoscopic endonasal approaches (EEAs) to the skull base have revolutionized neurosurgical access, however, as the spectrum of extended EEAs continues to expand, traditional two-dimensional imaging remains insufficient for comprehensive anatomical understanding. Three-dimensional (3D) photorealistic models derived from endoscopic video recordings of extended EEAs, offer immersive visualization for education. The objective of the study is to describe a standardized step-by-step workflow for generating 3D models from endoscopic endonasal cadaveric dissections. EEAs were performed to the sellar, …
