Stereoselective hydroxylation of mephenytoin is expressed polymorphically in the Japanese population: the occurrence of the poor metabolizer was approximately 20% in Japanese, which was 5 to 8 times higher than that in Caucasians. Leucocytozoon spp. are common avian haemosporidian parasites that can cause clinical symptoms with lethal cases in poultry worldwide. Cystic fibrosis is the most common life-limiting autosomal recessive condition in Australia. A defect in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein affects chloride transport across epithelial cells. Patients with cystic fibrosis produce thick sticky mucus. This causes problems in multiple organs, particularly the lungs. Cystic fibrosis modulator therapies can partially correct the underlying pathophysiology and improve chloride transport, thereby improving morbidity. Life expectancy is improving, so many patients are now developing chronic diseases associated with ageing.

Myiasis occurs when fly larvae, or maggots, feed on the tissue, secretions or digestive content of a live vertebrate. Here, a rare case of accidental intestinal or enteric myiasis is reported in a domestic dog. The species of fly is molecularly identified as Sarcophaga africa (Wiedeman, 1824) using the barcoding region of cytochrome oxidase I (COI).
