Epidemiological Characteristics and Mental Health Disparities Between War-Displaced Ukrainian and Host-Country People Living with HIV in Slovakia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 triggered the largest displacement crisis in Europe in recent decades. Displacement may affect both clinical outcomes and mental health among people living with HIV (PLHIV). Evidence comparing displaced PLHIV with host-country patients within the same healthcare system remains limited. This study aimed to compare epidemiological characteristics, clinical staging, and mental health outcomes between war-displaced Ukrainian PLHIV and Slovak PLHIV receiving care in the same clinical setting, with particular attention to sex-specific di

Evaluating COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness across epidemiologic designs: test-negative case-control versus retrospective cohort analyses in a nationwide study.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies are central to assessing vaccine effectiveness and informing public health policy. The two most common designs are test-negative case-control and cohort studies, yet direct comparisons of their performance using the same population, data sources, and analytic strategies remain rare. This study compares these two designs within a national population using harmonized analytic approaches. METHODS: Nationwide, matched test-negative case-control and retrospective cohort studies were conducted in Qatar between 1 January 2021 and 18 December 2021 to assess the effec

Changes in the Epidemiology of Pneumonia in Children Younger than 14 Years Old During and After the COVID-19 Pandemic in Mexico, a National Multicenter Study.

BACKGROUND: In 2019, pneumonia caused 740,180 deaths in children under five years of age, representing 22% of global mortality in this age group. During the COVID-19 pandemic, public health interventions markedly reduced the circulation of most respiratory viruses other than SARS-CoV-2, leading to significant post-pandemic shifts in respiratory pathogen epidemiology. This study aimed to characterize the epidemiology, clinical features, and risk factors associated with respiratory viruses and bacteria causing pneumonia in Mexican children during the late pandemic and post pandemic periods. Examining predictors of scale-up penalty in preliminary studies of health behavior interventions and subsequent larger trials: a meta-epidemiological review of diverse fields.

BACKGROUND: Scale-up penalty, a common phenomenon in which the promising effects found in early preliminary studies are substantially reduced when evaluated in a subsequent larger trial, can stall the advancement of health behavior interventions. In obesity-related behavioral interventions, changes to key features between a preliminary study and subsequent larger trials inflate scale-up penalty. The purpose of this study is to examine whether changes in intervention features occur in other behavioral disciplines that utilize a similar developmental continuum wherein smaller-scale preliminary s
