Health and Wellness Coaching in COPD: An Integrative Review.

Objective: This integrative review applies Self-Determination Theory to synthesize literature on Health and Wellness Coaching (HWC) interventions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), mapping intervention components to the core constructs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Methods: We searched five databases (PubMed, CINAHL Complete, SCOPUS, Healthcare Administration, and PsycINFO). Inclusion criteria: (1) adult COPD-only population, (2) reported a clearly defined quality of life (QOL) outcome measuring intervention effectiveness, and (3) met all four HWC intervention compon

Cortistatin neurons in the prelimbic cortex regulate seizure susceptibility in female mice via BDNF-TrkB signaling.

The risk of developing psychiatric disorders, particularly stress-related disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is increased threefold in patients with epilepsy. While this increased risk may arise as a consequence of living with epilepsy, shared neurobiological mechanisms, particularly dysregulation of GABAergic signaling, may also contribute. To investigate this link, we investigated the function of GABAergic neurons co-expressing the neuropeptide cortistatin (CST), which has anticonvulsant effects and is implicated in both MDD and PTSD.

Ageing mindfully: exploration of a conceptual model targeting anxiety about ageing in midlife.

OBJECTIVES: Ageing anxiety describes experiences of fear associated with the ageing process. In addition to the unpleasant experience of fear itself, several negative outcomes are linked to it. This study aimed to explore associations between mindfulness, self-care, self-compassion, and ageing anxiety within a framework of consistency theory. METHOD: Nonlatent path analysis was performed to examine the hypothesised relationships. Data were collected from N = 460 middle-aged (40-65-year-old) German-speaking adults. Mindful Attention And Awareness Scale, Self-Compassion Scale, Brief Mindful Sel

The psychosocial impacts of having eating and drinking difficulties after stroke: a qualitative evidence synthesis.

PURPOSE: Eating and drinking difficulties after stroke extend beyond physical impairment, affecting emotional well-being and social participation. This review explored the psychosocial impacts of these difficulties from the perspectives of stroke survivors, informal carers, and healthcare professionals. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines and informed by the ENTREQ framework, a systematic search of eight databases (1990-2025) was conducted. A thematic synthesis was used to examine psychosocial experiences. RESULTS: A total of 1,419 records were identified. After screening and c

Hippocampal astrocytic sequences emerge during learning and memory.

The dorsal hippocampus is a heterogeneous structure with numerous cell types involved in generating and maintaining detailed representations of space and time. Prior work has established that pyramidal cells contribute to these crucial aspects of associative memory. For example, hippocampal "time cells" encode temporal information through sequential activity. However, the roles of non-neuronal cell types are less often explored. In this study, we investigated dorsal hippocampal CA1 astrocytes using one-photon calcium imaging in freely moving animals during a contextual fear conditioning paradi

"I'm afraid to eat a piece of toast": The Lived Experience of Balancing Eating and Health Behaviors in Adults with Chronic Pain.

Chronic pain affects millions and is frequently comorbid with disordered eating behaviors; however, standard eating disorder screening tools often fail to capture the full scope of eating-related difficulties in this population. The purpose of this project was to explore the lived experience of eating problems among adults with complex chronic pain. Sixteen participants (15 women, age range 21-69, all White, non-Hispanic, cisgender) were interviewed by a member of the interprofessional research team, and data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis. Participants described eating diffic

Factors influencing women's preferences and decision making regarding the extent of axillary surgery in breast cancer: A systematic review.

Axillary surgery in early-stage breast cancer is increasingly de-escalated. However, variation in practice persists, and the patient level factors influencing treatment decisions remain unclear. This systematic review synthesised evidence on the psychological, clinical, and contextual factors shaping women's preferences and decision making regarding the extent of axillary surgery they receive. A PRISMA-guided search of Ovid MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane databases was conducted in December 2025. Ten studies involving 861 women were included, comprising observational, qualitative, and mixed metho

Timing of Prenatal Stress Exposure Predicts Infant Sympathetic Nervous System and Affective Responses.

Prenatal stress has broad detrimental consequences for neurodevelopment, with potential sensitive periods within gestation affecting specific developmental systems. We examined the effects of prenatal stress timing, level, and fluctuations on three markers of sympathetic nervous system activity: infant salivary alpha amylase (sAA), fear, and anger responses. In addition, we explored whether the effects of prenatal stress differed for boys and girls. We assessed 195 mother-infant dyads (45% girls) from an ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged community sample. Women reported perceiv

Parents' challenges in identifying offending snakes during paediatric snakebites in Sri Lanka: a qualitative study.

OBJECTIVES: Accurate identification of the offending snake can support clinical decision-making in snakebite management, particularly in settings without venom detection facilities. METHODS: A qualitative exploratory study was conducted among parents of children admitted with suspected or confirmed snakebites to three high-incidence hospitals in Sri Lanka. From August 2024 to July 2025, 64 in-depth interviews were carried out. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, translated, and analysed thematically using Braun and Clarke's six-phase approach. RESULTS: Parents described consider

Prematurity, temperament, physical wellbeing and maternal mental health in a low-income sample.

Preterm birth (i.e., before 37-week gestation) is a global health concern, with most prematurity occurring between 32 - 36.6 weeks gestation, yet research has primarily focused on extreme prematurity (i.e., before 32-weeks gestation). As such, less is known about the developmental and psychological outcomes associated with moderate-to-late preterm birth. This study examines how infant temperament and infant physical wellbeing are associated with maternal mental health, and whether moderate-late prematurity moderates these relationships in a low-income sample. Using a matched case-control desig

'When you hear such rumours, you get scared': A comparison of vaccine-related concerns between the oral polio vaccine and Covid-19 vaccines among communities in Cameroon and Ethiopia.

Despite widespread acceptance of the oral polio vaccine (OPV), vaccine hesitancy towards OPV in some countries presents a barrier to global eradication efforts. Between 2021 and 2022, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative implemented OPV campaigns concurrently with the roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines, for which vaccine hesitancy is well-documented. We sought to understand stakeholder perceptions of OPV and Covid-19 vaccines in Cameroon and Ethiopia. We implemented 32 focus group discussions (16 per country) with n = 216 caregivers of children under 5 and polio frontline workers to understand r

Perception of people living with HIV in Bhutan on disclosing HIV status and willingness to distribute HIV self-testing kits to their sexual and drug-injecting partners.

In Bhutan, HIV testing uptake among key populations remains low, with most cases diagnosed late. Evidence shows index testing and partner notification services (PNS) enhance diagnosis among partners of people living with HIV (PLHIV). However, traditional PNS are limited by HIV related stigma, fear of disclosure, and partner reluctance to visit health facilities. Integrating HIV self-testing (HIVST) within the PNS provides an alternative for earlier diagnosis. This qualitative study used in-depth interviews to explore the feasibility and acceptability of index testing using HIVST among PLHIV. D

Barriers and facilitators to access and utilisation of public sexual healthcare services for home-based Female Sex Workers (FSW) in The Netherlands: a qualitative study.

An ongoing shift from indoor sex work venues to home-based sex work has resulted in challenges in the provision of sexual healthcare services (SHS) for female sex workers (FSW), such as sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing. The study aimed to explore self-identified characteristics of the home-based FSW population and barriers and facilitators to access and utilise the STI clinic's SHS. For this qualitative study, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 29 home-based FSW in the Netherlands and thematically analysed using a hybrid of inductive and deductive coding using

Perceptions, knowledge, and access to the HPV vaccine among parents and healthcare providers in South Quito, Ecuador in 2025: A qualitative study.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is estimated to cause 99.7% of all cervical cancers and is the main cause of anal cancer. Despite global progress, Ecuador has one of the highest cervical cancer mortality rates in Latin America, with fluctuating vaccine uptake since its introduction for girls in 2014 and expansion to boys in 2024. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents of vaccine-eligible children and healthcare providers (HCPs) in Quito. The interviews explored HPV knowledge, perceptions, and access to vaccination. The transcripts were analysed thematically. Forty-one participants (

A co-production study of an art-based media campaign intervention to encourage early breast cancer screening uptake among Black women in England.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers that affects women globally. Of central concern are Black women in the United Kingdom who are disproportionately affected, present late and suffer higher mortality due to poor early screening uptake. Informed by an interpretative phenomenological analytical lens, this study makes an original and significant contribution to address the gap by working with 15 Black women from the north of England to co-produce an art-based media campaign intervention designed to encourage early breast cancer screening uptake. METHOD: N = 10 participant

Trelagliptin Ameliorates Memory Decline in Diabetic Rats through the AMPK/AKT/GSK-3β Pathway in the Cerebral Cortex.

Examining how hypoglycemic medications affect brain function is one of the best approaches to addressing cognitive impairment. In this study, trelagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibitor, was utilized to assess memory loss in diabetic rats through fear conditioning tests. Trelagliptin restored fear memory in diabetic rats that had been disrupted over a relatively long period (24 h) or extended period (5 days). Moreover, trelagliptin treatment reduced the higher incidence of neuronal cell death in the cerebral cortex, as observed via Nissl or hematoxylin and eosin staining. Subsequen

Reproductive concerns in young women with cervical cancer: latent profiles and key influencing factors.

PURPOSE: Cervical cancer incidence in China has risen to 13.83/100,000, particularly affecting younger women. Following recent family policy changes, reproductive concerns among cervical cancer patients have intensified. While fertility-sparing treatments show good survival rates, many patients still experience significant anxiety about future fertility. This study aims to examine distinct reproductive concern profiles and their influencing factors in cervical cancer patients of childbearing age. METHODS: We studied 247 patients from a Nanjing tertiary hospital between October 2023 and Octobe
