The presence of ongoing mandibular growth and tooth buds make it challenging for the treatment of mandibular fracture in paediatric. Most common and widely used method is the use of occlusion splint which are secured with the help of circumandibular wiring. The aim of this technical note was to describe a new method for the treatment of paediatric mandibular fracture in which the occlusion splint was used and stabilized with the help of suture so as to prevent minimal trauma to the soft tissue. Management of paediatric mandibular fracture is challenging and is different then that of adult. Usu

RATIONALE: Lunate fractures are very rare, accounting for only 0.5% to 6.5% of all carpal fractures. They are mostly caused by high-energy trauma and commonly occur with fractures and dislocations of other carpal bones. It is rarely combined with Colles' fracture and the underlying pathogenesis and prognostic significance still remain controversial.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Here we report a case of a fresh lunate fracture combined with Colles' fracture, without dislocations of other carpal bones caused by a low-energy fall injury.
DIAGNOSES: Lunate fracture, Colles' fracture.
INTERVENTIONS: This p

The primary surgical approach to the femoral neck fracture should be one with the lowest mortality and morbidity. Internal fixation appears to be the safe and logical approach for most of the reducible intracapsular fractures. Careful follow-up of these patients then is important. 85Sr scintimetry is a simple and accurate method in the early detection and evaluation of secondary complications in these patients. The 85Sr scintimetric pattern in the normal healing process was defined in relation to time interval after the fracture. At any time after 4 months following fracture, those hips destin

From an anatomical study and clinical review of fractures of the lateral humeral condyle in children, the following conclusions are drawn. The mechanism of injury is a violent varus force with the elbow in extension, the condyle being avulsed by the lateral ligament and the extensor muscles. If the fracture is incomplete, with an intact hinge of pre-osseous cartilage medially, the fragment will not be displaced. If the fracture is complete the fragment may be displaced, and open reduction with internal fixation is mandatory. The results of open reduction more than three weeks after the fractur

The incidence of periprosthetic and native distal femoral fractures is rising with the increasing utilization of total knee arthroplasty and an aging global population. These injuries present significant clinical challenges, most commonly affecting elderly patients. While fixation-based strategies remain widely employed, distal femoral replacement has emerged as an increasingly utilized alternative. The purpose of this narrative review is to examine the current indications, implant considerations, and clinical evidence supporting the use of distal femoral replacement in the management of both

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical stability of the posterior acetabular column plate and different posterior acetabular wall prostheses used in treating posterior acetabular fractures with or without comminution.
METHODS: The unilateral normal ilium was reconstructed, and a model of posterior acetabular wall fracture was established on this basis. The fracture fragment accounted for approximately 40% of the posterior acetabular wall. The posterior acetabular column plate and different posterior acetabular wall prostheses were also designed. Using static a

Since the 1970s, the 2%-10% rule has been used to describe the range of interfragmentary gap closure strains that are conducive for secondary bone healing. Interpreting the available evidence for the association between strain and bone healing remains challenging because interfragmentary strain is impossible to directly measure in vivo. The question of how much strain occurs within and around the fracture gap is also difficult to resolve using bench tests with osteotomy models because these do not reflect the complexity of injury patterns seen in the clinic. To account for these challenges, we

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of frozen cortical bone allografts (FCBA) in the treatment of severe radial and ulnar atrophic nonunion fractures.
ANIMALS: Toy breed dogs with nonunion of radial and ulnar fractures (n = 15).
METHODS: Severe atrophic nonunion fractures were treated with FCBA (eight infected and seven non-infected fractures). Radiographs obtained immediately after surgery, and 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12 months later were evaluated and scored for the periosteal reaction at the bone regeneration sites, the healing process in the bone connection areas at both the proximal and dis

Coracoid process fractures are rare injuries, usually associated with high-energy trauma and disruption of the superior shoulder suspensory complex (SSSC). We report the case of a 36-year-old male who sustained an Ogawa type I coracoid avulsion fracture with concomitant acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation following a low-energy mechanical fall. Initial radiographs demonstrated AC joint displacement with an associated coracoid fragment, further characterised by computed tomography (CT) with three-dimensional reconstruction. Imaging confirmed a displaced basal fracture involving the coracoc

The unique anatomy of the distal humerus predisposes it to coronal shear injuries of its articular appendages. These injuries often require an open reduction and internal fixation of articular fragments. The existing classification systems often overlook the depth of sub-chondral bone involvement. This case report discusses a rare variant of a distal humerus articular injury which involved an 'en-bloc separation of the anterior articular cartilage'. A young male in his 20s presented with a coronal shear fracture of the distal humerus, fixed using combined lateral and medial surgical approaches

INTRODUCTION: An isolated sustentaculum tali fracture is a rare manifestation of orthopaedic injury involving the supporting bone of the middle calcaneal facet. Globally, the incidence is estimated to be less than 1% of all calcaneus fractures.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We reported a 42-year-old man with persistent ankle pain and instability on the right foot following a week after a motorcycle accident. The Computed tomography evaluation showed an avulsion of the medial sustentaculum tali on the right calcaneus bone. An open reduction and internal fixation procedure was performed using two cannu

We describe the case of a patient with distal radius fracture who became unable to flex the distal interphalangeal joint of the index finger after internal fixation using a volar locking plate. There was palpable crepitus with active thumb motion, and wrist radiographs showed prominence of the volar plate at the watershed line. Therefore, our initial diagnosis was plate-induced closed rupture of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon of the index finger. However, upon surgical removal of the plate, no tendon rupture was found. Magnetic resonance imaging after plate removal showed diffuse increa

Non-union is incomplete consolidation of a fracture, without effective formation of a uniting callus. Despite better understanding of the physiology of bone consolidation, management of tibial non-union remains a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Several treatments have been developed in recent decades, and we now have a range of techniques, with indications based on type of non-union, prior treatments, available equipment, and the surgeon's experience. Firstly, there are surgical techniques such as osteo-periosteal decortication, cancellous iliac graft, or inter-tibiofibular graft. The decis

Despite an increasing awareness of injuries to PM in ankle fracture-dislocations, there are still many open questions. The mere presence of a posterior fragment leads to significantly poorer outcomes. Adequate diagnosis, classification and treatment require preoperative CT examination, preferably with 3D reconstructions. The indication for surgical treatment is made individually on the basis of comprehensive assessment of the three-dimensional outline of the PM fracture and all associated injuries to the ankle including syndesmotic instability. Anatomic fixation of the avulsed posterior tibiof

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The purpose of this case report is to describe the outcome of a patient following fixation of a midshaft femur fracture and an evaluation-based, immediate-weight-bearing approach to rehabilitation.
CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient was a 28-year-old male manual laborer whose left femur was fractured in a head-on motor vehicle accident. The patient was treated with internal fixation of the left femur by use of an antegrade intramedullary nail. Following surgery, impairments in range of motion, knee extensor and hip abductor strength, and gait were observed. Intervention foc

The lateral notch is a radiographic sign that describes a depression in the lateral femoral condyle near the terminal sulcus. The sign was first described in association with chronic instability in an anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee. Recently, the senior author, after a prospective study, reported that these lateral notches might occur acutely at the time of anterior cruciate ligament injury. We report such a case in which the lateral femoral condylar depression fracture resulted in symptoms of lateral compartment incongruity. Open reduction and internal fixation were required. Anter

A 30-year-old male was an unrestrained driver in a high-speed motor vehicle crash. On presentation, the patient was profoundly hypotensive with multiple injuries, including a 20-cm-deep perineal laceration with avulsion of the rectum, a diffusely tender abdomen, an unstable open-book pelvic fracture, and multiple rib fractures. Blood noted at the urethral meatus prompted a retrograde urethrogram and cystogram, which were within normal limits. A Foley catheter was placed with the return of clear urine. Closed reduction and external fixation of the pelvic fracture were performed emergently witho
