PURPOSE: Most standard textbooks of hand surgery report on the rate of palmaris longus muscle absence of 15%. The aim of the study was to determine the absence of palmaris longus and to correlate it with age, sex and body side.
METHODS: The study included 800 subjects (400 male and 400 female). They were initially asked to do the standard test for the assessment of the palmaris longus tendon. If the tendon was not visualized or palpable, four additional tests were done to confirm its absence.

Bile ducts of Luschka (also called subvesical or supravesicular ducts) can cause bile leakage during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, especially if surgery is carried out in ignorance of such variations. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical anatomy of these ducts in human fetuses and frequency of the ducts locating near gallbladder fossa. Stroke patients with "pusher syndrome" show severe misperception of their own upright body orientation although visual-vestibular processing is almost intact. This dissociation argues for a second graviceptive system in humans for the perception of body orientation. Recent studies revealed that the posterior thalamus is an important part of this system. The present investigation aimed to study the cortical representation of this system beyond the thalamus. We evaluated 45 acute patients with and without contraversive pushing following left-or right-sided cortical lesions sparing the thalamus.

In prenatal and pediatric cardiovascular surgery knowledge of luminal diameters of the aortic and great pulmonary pathways is essential. The internal diameters of the aortic and great pulmonary pathways in 131 human foetuses (65 male, 66 female) were studied by means of anatomical, digital and statistical methods. OBJECTIVE: Acute maxillary sinusitis is one of the most common diseases in human. Reactive oxygen metabolites (ROMs) produced also physiologically in the body, are normally neutralised by antioxidative enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). Infection is one of the causes of increased ROMs production. The most important mechanism of tissue damage produced by ROMs is the peroxidation of lipids found in cell membranes and it may be estimated by malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. The purpose of this study, is to investigate tissue damage caused by ROMs in maxillary sinusitis in 24 rabbits.
