A functional form for the vascular concentration of MRI contrast agent after intravenous bolus injection was developed that can be used to model the concentration at any vascular site at which contrast concentration can be measured. The form is based on previous models of blood circulation, and is consistent with previously measured data at long post-injection times, when the contrast agent is fully and evenly dispersed in the blood. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Positron emission tomography (PET) allows imaging and quantitative analysis of organ functions in basal and stimulated conditions. We have applied this method to the study of biliary bicarbonate secretion in humans.
METHODS: PET was performed in 5 healthy subjects and 13 patients with hepatobiliary disorders after intravenous injection of NaH11CO3. In each case the study was performed in basal conditions and after secretin stimulation. Positron emission from the hepatic area was scanned, and normalized uptake values for parenchymal and hilar regions were estimated.

The effects of TRH and oral glucose loading on the release of GH were investigated in 10 children or adolescents with constitutional tall stature. Eight of these children had a family history of above average height. The mean (and SEM) baseline GH levels (3.12 +/- 2.0 ng/ml) were similar to those in control subjects. CASE: A 32-year-old man developed lumbar discitis and osteomyelitis after receiving a cell-based injection for the treatment of degenerative disc disease. Initial cultures were negative, but he continued to worsen, and a repeat set of cultures was taken. On day 10, Cutibacterium acnes was isolated. Ultrasound targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) is a novel technique that is used to deliver a gene or other bioactive substance to organs of living animals in a noninvasive manner. Plasmid DNA binding with cationic liposome into nanoparticles are assembled into the shell of microbubbles, which are circulated by intravenous injection. Intermittent bursts of ultrasound with low frequency and high mechanical index destroys the microbubbles and releases the nanoparticles into targeted organ to transfect local organ cells.
