Internal maxillary distraction with the Le Fort I osteotomy is a technique that can provide simultaneous skeletal advancement and gradual expansion of the soft tissue. For calibrating the vectors of the internal distractors and transferring the desired vectors to the patient, surgical guides may be fabricated before surgery on a stereolithographic model. The anterior nasal spine may be used as a critical anatomical landmark for applying this type of surgical guide.

We report two unusual cases of non-syndromic hypoplasia of the parotid gland. The hypoplastic parotid gland mimicked a preauricular parotid tumor in one case and presented as an incidental image finding in the other case. Absence of the deep lobe and isthmus of the parotid parenchyma could be determined on axial computed tomography (CT) by revealing fat tissue composition of the parotid space. The underdeveloped superficial lobe of the gland was observed on three-dimensional CT sialography.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the nasal airway changes after maxillary advancement following Le Fort I osteotomy.
METHODS: 13 cases with class III malocclusion, aged 18-35 years old, were studied prospectively. All the patients underwent Le Fort I osteotomy and maxillary advancement. Rhinological inspectrum, acoustic rhinometry (AR) were performed before operation, 3 and 6 months after operation. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene knockout on apoptosis of myocardial cells in mice with Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3)-induced dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and its potential mechanism, so as to provide certain references for the clinical prevention and treatment of DCM.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 40 male C57 mice were randomly divided into Sham group (n=20) and DCM group (n=20) using a random number table.
