Imaging-validated correlates and implications of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of ageing-related cerebral large artery and small vessel diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral large artery and small vessel diseases are considered substrates of neurological disorders. We explored how the mechanisms of neurovascular uncoupling, dysfunctional blood-brain-barrier (BBB), compromised glymphatic pathway, and impaired cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) and autoregulation, identified through diverse neuroimaging techniques, impact cerebral large artery and small vessel diseases. METHODS: Studies (1990-2024) that reported on neuroradiological findings on ageing-related cerebral large artery and small vessel diseases were reviewed. Fifty-two studies involvi

Network-wide morphometric organization deficits and transcriptomic correlates in Parkinson's disease with freezing of gait: A morphometric inverse divergence study.

BACKGROUND: Freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease is an episodic locomotor arrest during rapid sensorimotor transitions (e.g., turning, gait initiation). Its macroscale cortical architecture and transcriptomic context remain unclear. METHODS: We constructed individual Morphometric Inverse Divergence (MIND) networks from T1-weighted MRI and derived regional weighted degree (WD). Regions were assigned to Yeo 7 functional systems and network-level WD was compared across PD with FOG (FOG), PD without FOG (nFOG), and healthy controls (HC) using ANCOVA. To assess discriminative value, logis

Exploring the effect of dapagliflozin on coronary inflammation in type 2 diabetes patients based on the coronary artery perivascular fat attenuation index.

BACKGROUND: The pericoronary fat attenuation index (FAI) is a novel biomarker that serves as an indicator of coronary artery inflammation. Dapagliflozin has become an important component of standard treatment for type 2 diabetes because of its cardioprotective and renoprotective effects. The objective of this research was to explore how dapagliflozin impacts coronary artery inflammation in T2DM patients and to establish a novel theoretical framework for the protective role of dapagliflozin in the cardiovascular system. METHODS: This research retrospectively included 271 T2DM patients treated

Benchmarking Machine Learning Models for HIV-1 Protease Inhibitor Resistance Prediction: Impact of Data Set Construction and Feature Representation.

The rapid emergence of drug resistance in viral infections represents a significant global health challenge, threatening the efficacy of treatments for multiple diseases. Machine learning models have emerged as valuable tools for predicting antiviral drug resistance from genomic data, with HIV-1 protease serving as a well-characterized model system due to its extensive experimental data and clinical relevance. Here, we systematically evaluate multiple previously published HIV-1 protease inhibitor (PI) resistance prediction models across three distinct data sets with different preprocessing and

Dosimetric evaluations using cycle-consistent generative adversarial network synthetic CT for MR-guided adaptive radiation therapy.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance (MR) guided radiation therapy combines high-resolution image capabilities of MRI with the precise targeting of radiation therapy. However, MRI does not provide the essential electron density information for accurate dose calculation, which limit the application of MRI. In this presented work, we evaluated the potential for Deep Learning (DL) based synthetic CT (sCT) generation using 3D MRI setup scans acquired during real-time adaptive MRI-guided radiation therapy. METHODS: We trained and evaluated a Cycle-consistent Generative Adversarial Network (Cycle-GAN) us

Decades of discovery: unveiling emerging trends, pivotal research areas, and landmark publications in national tobacco research in India.

INTRODUCTION: Tobacco use remains a major public health concern in India, contributing significantly to the burden of non-communicable diseases and premature mortality. Over the past two decades, national tobacco research has evolved in response to shifting regulatory frameworks, scientific developments, and increasing awareness of tobacco's health, social, and environmental implications. The World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), adopted in 2003, has played a catalytic role in aligning research efforts with global priorities. However, there is a need to

Body size and intracranial volume interact with the structure of the central nervous system: A multi-center in vivo neuroimaging study.

Clinical research emphasizes the implementation of rigorous and reproducible study designs that rely on between-group matching or controlling for sources of biological variation such as subject's sex and age. However, corrections for body size (i.e., height and weight) are mostly lacking in clinical neuroimaging designs. This study investigates the importance of body size parameters in their relationship with spinal cord (SC) and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) metrics. Data were derived from a cosmopolitan population of 267 healthy human adults (age 30.1 ± 6.6 years old, 125 females).

Training of a deep learning based digital subtraction angiography method using synthetic data.

BACKGROUND: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a fluoroscopy method primarily used for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Deep learning-based DSA (DDSA) is developed to extract DSA-like images directly from fluoroscopic images, which helps in saving dose while improving image quality. It can also be applied where C-arm or patient motion is present and conventional DSA cannot be applied. However, due to the lack of clinical training data and unavoidable artifacts in DSA targets, current DDSA models still cannot satisfactorily display specific structures, nor can they predict

Associations of Cerebral Blood Flow Patterns With Gray and White Matter Structure in Patients With Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Neuroimaging studies in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) show widespread brain network alterations beyond the mesiotemporal lobe. Despite the critical role of the cerebrovascular system in maintaining whole-brain structure and function, changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) remain incompletely understood in the disease. Here, we studied whole-brain perfusion and vascular network alterations in TLE and assessed its associations with gray and white matter compromises and various clinical variables. METHODS: We included individuals with and without pharmaco-re
