Barriers to implementation of pediatric emergency department interventions for parental tobacco use and dependence: a qualitative study using the theoretical domains framework.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric emergency department (PED) and urgent care (UC) professionals can play a key role in delivering evidence-based guidelines to address parental tobacco use and child tobacco smoke exposure (TSE). Understanding PED/UC professionals' perceptions regarding these guidelines is the first step in developing and implementing a TSE screening and counseling intervention in these settings. This study aimed to use the theoretical domains framework (TDF) to identify current screening and counseling behaviors of PED/UC professionals related to parental tobacco use and child TSE, and det

From theory to practice: a Belgian consensus on minimal monitoring strategies for patients with IBD treated with advanced therapies.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic conditions requiring lifelong management, often involving advanced therapies. To harmonize the current heterogeneity in monitoring practices we developed a Belgian Standard of Care (SOC) guidance for patients with IBD treated with these advanced therapies. METHODS: A multistep approach was adopted. First, a core team of IBD clinicians conducted a national survey to evaluate current practices and identify gaps. Next, a SOC guidance document was drafted and reviewed by multiple stakeholders, including physicians and IBD nu

Best Practices in Intramuscular Injections for Neonates and Infants.

Evolving evidence has reshaped best practice standards for intramuscular injections in neonates (birth to 28 days of age) and infants (1 to 12 months of age), refining recommendations related to injection site selection, needle selection, injection technique, safety, and pain management. This clinical practice update synthesizes current evidence and guidance to provide nurses and other clinicians with practical, evidence-based strategies for intramuscular injection in these populations. Current guidance supports use of the vastus lateralis muscle in the anterolateral thigh as the preferred inj

Comparative evaluation of SBS and RASS for sedation assessment in mechanically ventilated children.

BACKGROUND: In mechanically ventilated children in the PICU, assessment of analgesia, sedation, and delirium often requires multiple instruments, which increases workflow complexity and nursing burden. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association and clinical agreement between the State Behavioral Scale (SBS) and the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) in mechanically ventilated children in the PICU. METHODS: This retrospective study included 1,025 mechanically ventilated children admitted to a tertiary PICU between May 2024 and October 2025. SBS and RASS scores were recorded simultaneously a

Complex Trauma Survivors' Experiences of Services and Support for Mental Health: A Qualitative Thematic Synthesis.

In exploring survivors' experiences of the wide range of services across settings that they sought for mental health support, this review synthesises experiences, facilitators and barriers encountered to help-seeking in adult survivors of complex trauma. We searched multiple databases including Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Applied Social Sciences Index, Web of Science, and PROQUEST. In total, 23,129 records were retrieved and screened, out of which 108 records were eligible for inclusion. Following a narrative synthesis, seven th

What predicts collective dedication in health professions education? A path analysis among health and social care students.

BACKGROUND: In health professions education, cultivating commitment to collaborative practice is essential. However, collective dedication as a desired outcome in interprofessional education (IPE) often remains overlooked. Psychological factors contributing to team members' collective dedication are poorly understood within health professions collaborative learning environments. This study examined relationships among team psychological factors (interdependence, relatedness, efficacy, and potency) and their influence on collective dedication in an IPE context. METHOD: Data were from 236 under

A qualitative meta-synthesis of the essence of patient experiences of dialysis.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to understand the experiences of dialysis and their meaning among patients with chronic kidney disease through a meta-synthesis of the existing literature. Since 2010, the prevalence of end-stage renal disease has doubled in South Korea, which has the sixth-highest incidence worldwide. Although most kidney disease patients undergo dialysis to attenuate disease-related symptoms and prolong their lives, the implications of dialysis on their lives, together with the role played by patients' significant others, remain underexplored. Similarly, existing research has not co

[Position paper on working in the intensive care unit during pregnancy : DIVI recommendations for improving the situation of pregnant employees in the ICU].

The Maternity Protection Act is intended to protect the mother and the child from hazards, excessive demands and damage to health in the workplace, and from financial disadvantages and loss of employment. However, the objectives defined by the Maternity Protection Act-the safety and health of the pregnant employee on the one hand and the prevention of disadvantages in working life on the other-are not yet adequately achieved in the intensive care unit (ICU). Implementation of the Maternity Protection Act to the benefit of all involved parties should also be promoted in the specialist areas rep

Needs of caregivers of patients receiving in-home palliative and end-of-life care.

UNLABELLED: Home support for patients receiving in-home palliative and end-of-life care (PELC) is greatly dependent on the daily presence of caregivers and their involvement in care delivery. However, the needs of caregivers throughout the care trajectory of a loved one receiving in-home PELC are still relatively unknown. OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGY: This descriptive qualitative study focuses on the role of caregivers who have cared for a person receiving in-home PELC with the goal of describing their needs throughout the care trajectory. As part of this process, 20 caregivers took part in sem
