In view of the limitations of Widal test for the diagnosis of typhoid, haemagglutination test using sensitized sheep red blood cells was designed at our laboratory. The test gave only 1.8% positivity at 1:40 dilution among 500 normal persons. A descriptive, qualitative study using Watson's theory of human care was conducted to explore the experiences of persons with adult polycystic kidney disease (APKD) and their at-risk family members. The analysis of the data identified four major themes: (a) knowledge about APKD, (b) attitudes toward APKD, (c) attitudes toward genetic testing, and (d) family planning decisions. Regional hemodynamics using plethysmography and tissue oxygen tension at the basal level and during corinfar administration were investigated in 38 patients with heart failure against a background of rheumatic heart valvular diseases, dilatation cardiomyopathy and coronary heart disease. A considerable decrease in regional vascular resistance (RVR) and improvement of tissue oxygenation were noted in persons with a raised basal RVR level. A value of an acute test with corinfar for administration of regular therapy was determined.

The impaired driver is evaluated for driver licensing according to a functional ability profile. This test correlates, in increments, the physical or medical ability of the driver with the risk categories and the vehicles the driver is permitted to operate. The person is responsible for his fitness to drive. The physician may help in patient evaluation by participation in a medical advisory board or in public education. A simple test based on the Pulfrich phenomenon may provide an indication of optic nerve dysfunction. When a small object swinging pendulum fashion is viewed binocularly by a person with one eye covered by a neutral density filter, the object appears to swing in an elliptical path. The patient with optic nerve dysfunction may see it this way without use of a filter. The Pulfrich theory is explained, clinical applications are discussed, and instructions for constructing a Pulfrich apparatus are given.
