We report a very rare case of a simultaneous rupture of the right patellar and left quadriceps tendon in an otherwise healthy 37-year-old patient, who jumped off a kickboard. Suture of both tendons was performed on the day of trauma. We describe our postoperative treatment and report the follow-up examination one year after the trauma. Beside functional questionnaire, Lysholm score and physical examination and x-ray, quadriceps isokinetic testing was performed.

We report on a 6-month-old boy with cavernous haemangioma of the penile shaft. He was admitted to our Department with the finding of a slowly enlarging penile mass two months in duration. Physical examination revealed an ovoid, solid and cystic subcutaneous mass 2 x 1, 5 x 1, 5 cm in size at the right side of the penile shaft. The tumour was completely removed surgically and histological examination demonstrated a cavernous haemangioma.

A patient is described who was diagnosed in an outpatient department as having paranoid psychosis and later chronic schizophrenia, which was treated with chlorpromazine. Two years later, the patient was admitted to hospital because of increasing confusion, disorganization, and numerous manic symptoms. Physical examination and serologic examination of blood and CSF confirmed the diagnosis of general paresis. Correct treatment led to the eventual discontinuation of neuroleptics and the cessation of paranoid and manic symptoms.

A clinical picture of mania can have many causes, including amphetamine or cocaine use, acute schizophrenia, manic-depressive illness, and viral encephalitis. Accurate and complete history--of both the present episode and past experiences--is most valuable in the differentiation, along with mental status examination, physical examination, and selected laboratory tests. It is advisable to withhold drug therapy, if possible, until the initial evaluation is completed, for it may obscure the diagnosis.

DESIGN: This is an analysis of a nationwide survey held in Brazil in 2019. Participants with diabetes and that were 15 years of age or older were eligible for inclusion in the analysis. PURPOSE: This study compares a web-based teleophthalmology assessment with a clinical slit lamp examination to screen for diabetic retinopathy (DR) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) among diabetic patients in a rural East African district.
METHODS: Six hundred and twelve eyes from 306 diabetic patients underwent both a clinical slit lamp examination and a teleretina (TR) assessment by an experienced ophthalmologist. Both assessments were compared for any DR and AMD using the early treatment diabetic retinopathy study and age-related eye disease study grading scales, respectively.
