A prospective comparison of I125 Fibrinogen uptake testing (FUT) and Impedance Plethysmography (IPG) was made in 22 patients (44 limbs) following aortic reconstructive surgery to determine the incidence of postoperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Normal FUT was obtained in 34 limbs, whereas ten limbs had abnormal uptake over the calf area consistent with venous thrombosis. Nine of the ten limbs with a positive scan underwent phlebography. A comparison of two hepatobiliary imaging agents, 99Tcm-dihydrothioctic acid (99Tcm-DHT) and (99Tcm-pyridoxylidene glutamate (99Tcm-PG) has been carried out in 44 non-jaundiced patients. Venous scintiscanning was performed once or serially in 252 patients in whom deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities was suspected, representing a total of 494 limbs examined and 1,266 venous scintiscans performed. Gallium-67 scans of 25 patients in whom the clinical symptoms and radiographic findings were suggestive of either maxillary sinus carcinoma or chronic sinusitis proved to be valuable in the differentiation between the two disease processes.
