Surgical correction of a rare type of double-outlet right ventricle was successfully carried out in a 20-year-old man. The malformation was associated with atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, pulmonic stenosis, a concordant atrioventricular relationship, and dextrocardia with situs inversus. A Teflon patch was sutured as a baffle in the right ventricle to direct blood that had passed from the left ventricle through the ventricular septal defect out through the aorta. The infundibular obstruction was resected, a pulmonic commissurotomy performed and the atrial septal defect closed.

The majority of cases involving clinically significant aortitis result from Takayasu's disease, syphilis, and mycotic aneurysms, although aortitis may occur as a part of the clinical manifestation in other diseases of known and unknown etiology. Syphilitic aortitis can be treated successfully if an accurate diagnosis is made early and if appropriate antibiotic therapy is instituted. Of 732 patients undergoing open heart surgery in Pars Hospital Tehran, 127 were classified in a high risk surgical category. Of these, there were 19 mortalities. Three main groups of patients were studied; Group I consisted of those with congenital disorders, such as Ebstein's anomaly and the medical-necrosis type of ascending aneurysms; Group II consisted of reoperation cases; and Group III was composed of patients with cardiomegaly who required double or triple-valve surgery.

One 16-year-old boy with cor triatriatum and congenital mitral regurgitation and two women, 35- and 54-years-old, with cor triatriatum and rheumatic mitral stenosis are reported. Skin bioelectric potentials were obtained from both normal and injured human thighs using surface direct current silver/silver chloride monitoring electrodes. Electrical patterns in normal subjects fell into 4 distinct groups. In subjects with injured thigh significant electrical differences were associated with bone formation. The findings are discussed.

We studied the role of the urinary bladder of Bufo marinus in the excretion of bicarbonate into the urine. The toads were in metabolic alkalosis, produced by administering 120 mM NaHCO3 by stomach tube or by soaking the toads in 120 mM NaHCO3 solution for 48 to 72 hr. In vitro 10 cannulated whole bladders from toads in alkalosis transported bicarbonate from the serosal to mucosal medium. The average gradient created by this transport was 5.7 meq/1. In 15 whole bladders from toads in metabolic acidosis studied under identical conditions, there was no transport of bicarbonate into mucosal medium

Mass treatment of a community in Costa Rica with thiabendazole in 1965 reduced the prevalence of S. sterocoralis from 19.2% to 0.3%, and the rates remained low 2 years thereafter.
