Gastric cancer in the young adult is rare and has been said to be more aggressive than gastric cancers of the older age group. Its unique association with pregnancy is even rarer. However, they have similar complications of haemorrhage, obstruction and perforation. We report a 27 year old lady at 16 weeks gestation who presented with a perforated malignant gastric ulcer and carcinomatosis peritonei. Reviewing the literature, we realised that such complication of a gastric cancer occurring in a pregnant young adult has not been previously documented.

Acute unilateral keratomalacia, probably secondary to trauma, occurred in a greater one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) transferred between zoologic facilities. Although the oral mucosa is often the site of entry of actinomyces into the deeper tissues, actinomycosis in the oral mucosa is extremely rare. Actinomycotic lesions are usually described as either single or multiple abscesses or indurated masses with hard fibrous walls and soft central loculations. Actinomyces israelii is the principal cause of human actinomycosis. We present a rare case of actinomycosis caused by Actinomyces odontolyticus; it presented primarily as a long-standing ulcer of the oral mucosa mimicking a squamous cell carcinoma.

The gastric secretion inhibition, the second phase mainly, after the extragastric vagotomy (EGV) conduction, was proved in experiment. The inhibition of carbacholine and more profound (up to 92%) of pentagastrin secretion was noted. In 42 patients with duodenal ulcer disease the EGV was performed.

There were examined 79 patients, operated on for duodenal ulcer disease. Before the operation the Helicobacter pylori (HP) dissemination of stomach and duodenum of significant degree was diagnosed in 51.9%, mild degree--in 34.2% and of a nonsignificant one--in 13.9% of patients. AIM: Choice of optimal antihelicobacter (AH) treatment of ulcer.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 249 outpatients with duodenal ulcer associated with Helicobacter pylori entered a blind multicenter controlled trial. The patients were given one of the following drugs: metronidazole, tonidazol, amoxicilline, clarithromycin, rovamycin, omeprazole, azitromycin.
RESULTS: Of all the drugs used, rovamycin appeared preferable as it has high AH activity, is safe and cost-effective.

The pathogeny of cutaneous ulcers is complex. The role of a critical bacterial contamination is controversial. The use of topical antibiotics is unwise, and that of antiseptics is still a matter of debate. Some authors contend that antiseptics mitigate wound healing through a toxic effect upon keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Other researchers bring forward sound arguments to support the concept of beneficial cytotoxicity of antiseptics in the treatment of chronic cutaneous ulcers.
