Central venous catheter migration to the arterial system occurred due to the surgical procedure during total cavopulmonary shunt. The catheter seems to have crept into the portion of the vena cava that had been designated for clamping, because of the position for the surgery and the anatomic characteristics of the patient. The catheter migrated in the right popliteal artery and was removed immediately; however, it could enter the pulmonary arterial system and the other systemic arterial branches.

An endometrial adenocarcinoma with metastases to the lung, liver, spleen, mesentery and serosal peritoneal surfaces was found in an 11-year-old Arabian mare. Clinical signs included generalized weight loss, depression, anorexia, ventral edema and abdominal distension. Ascites was due to thrombosis of the caudal vena cava. The diagnosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma was based on the histological appearance of uterine glandular epithelium and the presence of similar tissue in the metastatic tumors.

A patient undergoing treatment for abdominal lymphoma presented with a superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome. The presence of a wide mediastinum and "nodular" mediastinal densities on CT presented a diagnostic problem, necessitating thoracotomy. The thoracotomy was negative for tumor or infection. We believe that the presence of an indwelling catheter and mediastinal lipomatosis resulted in the SVC syndrome. The "nodular" densities represented an unusual set of mediastinal collaterals that must be distinguished from adenopathy.

Arteriovenous fistula between major abdominal vessels is an unusual complication of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. It most frequently occurs between the aorta and the inferior vena cava, however, it is rare when occurring between the aorta and iliac veins. A case of an arteriovenous fistula (AVF), secondary to erosion of an arteriosclerotic abdominal aortic aneurysm into both the retroperitoneum and the iliac vein is presented. The literature is reviewed and the symptoms and the treatment are discussed.

We report two cases of post partum right ovarian vein thrombophlebitis: The aspect of the C.T. is presented, specifying the anatomic relations of the right ovarian vein. The C.T. progression under treatment is illustrated in one case by the appearance of a vena cava thrombosis and in another by a return to normal. The possibility of other examinations is discussed. Correct knowledge of these C.T. findings should allow a diagnosis and a treatment without invasive procedures.

Acute problems requiring emergency management may occur in association with malignancy. The most common are superior vena cava syndrome, compression of the spinal cord or cauda equina, hypercalcemia, tumor lysis syndrome, and fever in the neutropenic patient. Successful management requires that the physician be aware of the potential for such an emergency in a cancer patient and give priority to treatment, based on clinical evidence and a few essential studies, over definitive diagnosis.

Insufficiency of the cisterna chyli may result in chyloperitoneum, chyluria, chyloedema of the lower limbs and rarest of all--chylous metrorrhagia. One case of the latter complication is fully described and one other briefly mentioned. Both were treated by excision of all the dilated lymphatics around the vena cava and iliac veins with good results. Both cases showed lacunae in the flat bones which may be related to the lymphatic dysplasia.

Melioidosis is a potentially life-threatening infection caused by the Gram-negative bacillus Burkholderia pseudomallei. Mediastinal melioidosis has a range of clinical presentations, making it difficult to diagnose: we therefore reviewed the evidence on the clinical characteristics, radiological features and invasive diagnostic modalities or interventions. An electronic search was conducted on three databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Google Scholar) from November to December 2022. The initial search yielded 120 results, of which 34 studies met the inclusion criteria, but only 31 full-texts were retrie

BACKGROUND: Nutcracker syndrome is a condition in which the left renal vein is pinched between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, resulting in an increase in renal vein pressure and certain symptoms. We report a very rare case of retroperitoneal hematoma caused by the rupture of varicose veins of the left ovary.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old Japanese woman, para 7, experienced sudden left lower abdominal pain. She had no history of trauma or treatment complications. Computed tomography revealed a left retroperitoneal hematoma, but her abdominal pain subsided quickly; t

The Dibie-Musset (DM) vena caval filter was evaluated on a hydraulic test bench reproducing flow conditions in the inferior vena cava: pressure, flow, viscosity, diameter and elasticity of the conduit. The results were compared with those obtained with the Greenfield filter (GF). In addition to classical measurements (captation and loss of load) we measured the velocity profile with a Doppler ultrasonic probe proximal and distal to the filter to study flow conditions before and after embolisation of clots. In order to circumvent the difficulties encountered with the use of real thrombi, chemic

Prevention is the best therapy for deep venous thrombosis, but when this fails, prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment can usually avoid lethal pulmonary embolism. Anticoagulation is the preferred treatment for thromboembolic disease because it prevents lethal pulmonary embolism and also arrests the underlying thrombotic process. However, in specific patients with documented pulmonary embolism or deep venous thrombosis, or who are at high risk that either of these will develop, anticoagulation therapy may be contraindicated, may fail to control the thrombotic process, or may offer inadequa

OBJECTIVES: Pediatric renal tumors with intravascular extension require complex surgery. The extent of venous and intracardiac involvement determines the operative strategy. We report 3 children with unilateral renal tumors and intravascular extension who underwent complete tumor resection using tailored surgical approaches.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 3 pediatric cases of renal tumors with intravascular extension. Accompanying surgical videos demonstrate the operative techniques.
RESULTS: All patients had primary renal tumors extending into the ipsilateral renal vein and inferior v

Myocardial sleeves (MSs) are thin layers of cardiac muscle that extend from the atria into the caval and pulmonary veins. They are recognised as important structures in both initiating and maintaining atrial tachycardia, and especially atrial fibrillation (AF), which is the most clinically important cardiac arrhythmia in horses with a reported prevalence of 1.3-2% in Standardbred racehorses. In contrast, the Norwegian-Swedish Coldblooded Trotter (NSCT) has a much lower prevalence of AF despite experiencing similar physical demands. The purpose of this study was to describe the macro-, and micr
