Retinal projections were examined in two tyrosinase-negative albino cats using autoradiographic techniques. Cats from this colony have pink eyes; their retinal pigment epithelium, ciliary body, and iris epithelium are completely devoid of melanin pigment. Test breeding for five generations indicates that these cats are true albinos (cc). BACKGROUND: Mitochondrial enoyl CoA reductase protein-associated neurodegeneration (MEPAN) syndrome is an ultra-rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the MECR gene. The syndrome is characterized by dystonia in early childhood, basal ganglia signal abnormalities on MRI, and subsequent optic atrophy, with relative sparing of cognition. ANIMAL STUDIED: Retrospective review of medical records from dogs presenting to the Small Animal Hospital at University of Florida following snakebites to the face (2012-2014). Two groups were identified: periocular bites (PB) and ocular bites (OB).
