High plasma lipoprotein phospholipase A2 activity (Lp-PLA2) is reported to be a risk factor for dementia. A loss of function polymorphism in the Lp-PLA2 gene - PLA2G7 V279F - is found almost exclusively in Asians. AIM: To evaluate the effects of short-term chlorambucil therapy in the management of uveitis due to Behcet's disease.
METHODS: Forty-four patients with refractory uveitis associated with Behcet's disease who had had short-term chlorambucil therapy for about 23 weeks were included in the study. The frequency of attacks (number of attacks per year) and the longest period between the attacks were analyzed to evaluate the efficiency of the therapy. The therapy was judged to be effective if the patient had < or =1 attack a year and/or > or =1 year between the attacks.

BACKGROUND: Classical lissencephaly is a disorder of neuroblast migration with most patients having mutations of either the LIS1 or DCX genes. Most patients with lissencephaly secondary to LIS1 mutations have a severe malformation consisting of generalized agyria and pachygyria. However, increasing experience suggests that the phenotypic spectrum is wider than previously thought.

We encountered two cases of T-prolymphocytic leukemias (T-PLL) with complex hypodiploid chromosomal abnormalities. Mitomycin C has improved the success rate of glaucoma filtering surgery in patients at high risk for surgical failure. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficacy and safety of low-dose (0.2 mg/ml) intraoperative mitomycin C in primary trabeculectomy.
METHODS: Twenty-eight eyes of 28 patients with advanced primary open-angle glaucoma undergoing primary trabeculectomy were randomized to either mitomycin C (0.2 mg/ml) or saline solution intraoperatively for 3 min. Intraocular pressure was measured at 1 day; 1 week; 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively; and at the final visit.
RESULTS: Mean follow-up was 17.0 +/- 5.6 months for the mitomycin C group and 15.7 +/- 5.1 months for the control group
