Changes in plasma T4 levels were investigated in prepubertal and adult female goats during the course of an experimental Trypanosoma congolense infection. A significant decline in the T4 levels was observed within 1 week of trypanosome challenge. The levels remained low up to the end of the 7th weeks when prepubertal goats received a trypanocidal treatment, whereafter the values started to rise to normal pre-infection values. The influence of two stress factors, sharp changes in temperature and hypokinesia, on the course of experimental tick-borne encephalitis and Langat virus infections in mice has been studied. Normal and DMH-treated male rats aged 18-20 weeks underwent surgical transection and anastomosis of the transverse colon. Animals were subsequently killed at intervals of 14, 30 and 72 days. Sfericase, a novel protease produced by a strain of Bacillus sphaericus, has endopeptidase activity. Sfericase inhibits various experimental acute inflammations and reduces viscosity of sputum obtained from subacute bronchitic rabbits by oral treatment. A low molecular fraction of serum obtained from animals given oral sfericase also has an anti-inflammatory effect. This result suggests that a secondarily produced substance might play a role in the manifestation of anti-inflammatory action. A quantitative investigation was undertaken to evaluate the changes which occur in the dental tissues of the rat incisor following the systemic administration of adrenal glucocorticoid hormone.
