COPD Burden Across 48 Asian Locations, 2009-2023: Demographic Drivers and Socioeconomic Inequality.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can show declining age-standardized rates while the number of affected people grows. We quantified this divergence and its demographic and socioeconomic pattern across Asia. METHODS: Using Global Burden of Disease 2023 estimates for 48 Asian locations (2009-2023), primary analyses examined incidence, prevalence, deaths, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), age-sex patterns, estimated annual percentage changes, demographic decomposition, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI)-related inequality. Exploratory analyses assessed pre-2020 trend

Incidence and mortality of multiple myeloma: Global, regional and national estimates and projections from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

Multiple myeloma (MM), the second most common haematological malignancy, remains incurable to date. Based on Global Burden of Disease 2021, global trends in MM incidence, mortality and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) were analysed and visualized. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) quantified trends and future disease burden (2022-2050) were forecasted using autoregressive integrated moving average time-series models. From 1990 to 2021, the global burden of MM incidence showed a slight increase, primarily affecting ageing populations and high/high-middle sociodemographic index (

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease frequency around the globe: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease has been historically associated with specific ethnic groups, suggesting an underlying susceptibility. Prior to this study, no meta-analysis had synthesized the global epidemiology of VKH, and therefore, information on its geographic distribution remained incomplete. The present study aims to determine the global distribution of VKH disease diagnosis in individuals presenting with uveitis. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis of quantitative studies published between 2001 and 2025 in PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS was conducted f

Low genetic polymorphism of the PvMSP1-19 vaccine candidate among Plasmodium vivax isolates along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

Plasmodium vivax remains the predominant malaria species in Thailand, accounting for approximately 97% of all reported cases, with transmission persisting in endemic border regions such as Kanchanaburi Province along the Thailand-Myanmar border. The C-terminal 19-kDa fragment of merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP1-19) has been proposed as a promising blood-stage vaccine candidate owing to its essential role in erythrocyte invasion and EGF-like domains. However, population-level genetic evidence from localized transmission foci in Southeast Asia remains limited. I this study, we investigated th

Genetic polymorphism and natural selection of apical membrane antigen-1 in Plasmodium malariae isolated from Vietnam.

BACKGROUND: Plasmodium malariae, a causative agent of human quartan malaria, has been largely overlooked due to its mild clinical manifestations and low prevalence. Genetic information of the parasite is also very limited, particularly for clinical isolates. In this study, we analyzed the genetic nature of apical membrane antigen-1 (AMA-1) in Vietnam P. malariae isolates to expand knowledge on the genetic nature of the vaccine candidate protein. METHOD: The gene encoding AMA-1 of P. malariae (pmama-1) was amplified from 95 Vietnam P. malariae isolates and sequenced. Polymorphic patterns and n
