INTRODUCTION: With severely inflamed gallbladders, laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be difficult and may require procedures like subtotal cholecystectomy (SC). Few studies exist comparing SC and total cholecystectomy (TC) in the setting of severe biliary inflammation. This meta-analysis aims to compare SC and TC for difficult gallbladders.

The case report presents the successful performance of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for situs viscerum inversus totalis in a female patient with chronic cholecystitis and cholecystolithiasis and summarizes current knowledge and approaches to this issue. Gallbladder empyema was found perioperatively, which has only been published once in a similar case before. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in situs viscerum inversus totalis is a safe method to remove the gallbladder. Key words: situs viscerum inversus totalis laparoscopic cholecystectomy gallblader empyema.

Gallbladder tuberculosis (GT) is an extremely rare condition. This is thought to be due to the protective property of bile against the infection. Clinical and radiological diagnosis of GT is difficult. We describe a case of GT who initially presented to us with jaundice, a right hypochondrial mass and computed tomographic findings suggestive of gallbladder empyema. Therapeutic gallbladder procedures offer new options for treatment of gallbladder disease. These procedures may be life-saving, may be easier than other available techniques, or may merely provide an alternative form of therapy. Further use of these techniques will likely result in improvements in PC, as well as providing an ongoing definition of the role of these percutaneous procedures.
