Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), frequently referred to as concussion, is one of the most common neurological disorders. The underlying neural mechanisms of functional disturbances in the brains of concussed individuals remain elusive. Novel forms of brain imaging have been developed to assess patients postconcussion, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), diffusion MRI (dMRI), and perfusion MRI [arterial spin labeling (ASL)], but results have been mixed with a more common utilization in the research environment and a slower integratio

During the past years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been established as a reliable method for examination of the kidneys. Modern MRI systems enable to visualize renal masses with a high spatial resolution. This enables not only to differentiate between benign lesions and renal cancer but also to define the tumor stage with high accuracy. The impact of a precise preoperative staging has increased significantly due to stage adapted therapy approaches such as nephron sparing surgery or local ablative techniques (e.g. radiofrequency ablation). Tumor-related infiltration of the renal pelvis

In the living human brain the pyramidal tract (PT) can be displayed with magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). Although this imaging technique is already being used for planning and performing neurosurgical procedures in the PT vicinity, there is a lack of verification of DWI accuracy in other areas outside the directly subcortical PT parts. Before definitive electrode placement into the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in patients with Parkinson disease (PD) for chronic stimulation, the stimulation effect on PD symptoms and the side-effects, namely PT activation at the level of the in

Surgical articular cartilage repair therapies for cartilage defects such as osteochondral autograft transfer, autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) or matrix associated autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) are becoming more common. MRI has become the method of choice for non-invasive follow-up of patients after cartilage repair surgery. It should be performed with cartilage sensitive sequences, including fat-suppressed proton density-weighted T2 fast spin-echo (PD/T2-FSE) and three-dimensional gradient-echo (3D GRE) sequences, which provide good signal-to-noise and contrast-to-noi

PURPOSE: Imaging modalities, particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), have become the gold standard for assessing lesion characteristics of traumatic spinal cord injuries (SCI). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), an advanced MRI technique, offers insights into microstructural changes in white matter tracts. While previous studies focused on either acute or chronic SCI, few have examined longitudinal changes during the transition from acute to chronic stages of injury. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the evolution of DTI metrics over the first year following cervical SCI.

Brain imaging has shown altered corpus callosum (CC) morphology in patients with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS). Yet it is unclear whether these morphological changes are associated with altered interhemispheric interactions. Here, we combined transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DTI) to explore functional and structural interhemispheric connections between the left and right motor hand areas. We studied 14 unmedicated GTS patients without psychiatric comorbidity (2 women, mean age 35.5 years) and 15 healthy volunteers (3 women, mean a

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Aggressive variants of prostate cancer pose significant diagnostic and prognostic challenges due to atypical imaging appearances, variable prostate-specific antigen behavior, and distinct molecular features. Conventional imaging may underestimate their biological aggressiveness. This review aimed to synthesize current evidence on imaging characteristics, biomarker dynamics, tumor localization, histology, and radiomic features of aggressive prostate cancer variants, and to evaluate the potential role of radiomics in early recognition and risk stratification.
