A 58-year-old woman presented with a lump on the left side of the neck. Investigations by ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography were all indicative of a diagnosis of a solitary malignant mass with no primary lesion identified. Irritation of the mucosa of the aerodigestive tract is a well-known adverse effect of alendronate, whereas oral ulceration has been reported in only 14 articles in both the English and non-English literature. All of these have been associated with misuse of the drug. We here present the first case of severe oral ulceration attributable to use of alendronate without inappropriate therapeutic administration of the medication.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to establish if dental panoramic tomographic (DPT) radiographs provide a reliable means of assessing the anterior maxilla in new orthodontic patients.

Accidental oral myiasis are caused by ingestion of fly's eggs or direct oviposition over a compromised area of the host. Here the authors report 2 cases of accidental oral myiasis caused by direct oviposition over an edentulous area in the first patient and in the periodontium in the second patient. Both cases were treated successfully with topical applications of nitrofurazone during a 3-day period. No surgical procedures were required. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to determine the incidence of bad splits in sagittal split osteotomies (SSOs), performed at the same hospital, and if the occurrence was reduced over time because of technical progress and/or surgical experience.
