Prospective Observational Case Series in Infertile Women with Overweight or Obesity Treated with a Very-Low Calorie Ketogenic Diet (VLCKD) Prior to an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Treatment.

Background: Elevated BMI in women is linked to metabolic and endocrine imbalances that impair fertility and increase pregnancy risks. While >10% weight loss before an Assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment may improve outcomes, sustained results through conventional diets are challenging. A very-low calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD) promotes rapid fat loss while preserving lean mass and may offer long-term benefits. This study evaluated the efficacy (≥10% weight loss without lean mass reduction), adherence, metabolic effects, and pregnancy outcomes of a meal replacement VLCKD in women w

Sex- and Ethnic Differences in the Cross-sectional Association Between Sleep Regularity and Obesity Among US Adults, NHANES 2011-2014.

Obesity is a major public health concern, with disparities across racial and sex groups. While sleep duration has been extensively studied in relation to obesity, the role of sleep regularity remains less explored. In 2 nationally representative samples of US adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 2011/2012 & 2013/2014, n = 7085), we investigated the cross-sectional association between a sleep regularity index (SRI) derived from accelerometer data and obesity measures. Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), body roundness index (BRI), total fat mass, s

Comparison of anthropometric, metabolic, and body compositional abnormalities in Korean children and adolescents born small, appropriate, and large for gestational age: a population-based study from KNHANES V (2010-2011).

PURPOSE: The impacts of growth restriction and programming in the fetal stage on metabolic and bone health in children and adolescents are poorly understood. Moreover, there is insufficient evidence for the relationship between current growth status and metabolic components. Herein, we compared the growth status, metabolic and body compositions, and bone mineral density in Korean children and adolescents based on birth weight at gestational age. METHODS: We studied 1,748 subjects (272 small for gestational age [SGA], 1,286 appropriate for gestational age [AGA], and 190 large for gestational a

Effect of Nigella sativa, atorvastatin, or L-Carnitine on high fat diet-induced obesity in adult male Albino rats.

Obesity is increasing rapidly across the globe. It is widely accepted that natural products with a long safety background may modulate obesity. The current work aimed to investigate the effect of Nigella sativa, atorvastatin, or L-Carnitine on high-fat diet-induced obesity in white male albino rats. A regular basal diet was fed to 7 rats, and a high-fat diet (HFD) was fed to 24 rats throughout the study for 12 weeks. The HFD group was split equally into four subgroups, each containing six rats. The first group fed on HFD with no medication, the second group received HFD+ Nigella sativa, the th

Organochlorine pesticide bioaccumulation in wild Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) fat tissues: Environmental influences on changing residue levels and contaminant profiles.

Biologically significant concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) continue to be reported in wildlife populations and are of particular concern in species that occupy the highest trophic levels. Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) are important apex predators occurring throughout much of tropical and subtropical sub-Saharan Africa, where they inhabit estuarine and freshwater habitats often impacted by contamination. In this study we examined pesticide residue accumulation in fat tissue from Nile crocodiles at Lake St Lucia, South Africa, where historically large quantities of OCPs
