[Morphogenesis of the chick embryo foot as studied by Janus green B-induced malformations].

Janus green was injected into the amniotic sac of 6-5-day-old chick embryos at a single dose of 8-5 or 15 mug; the dye causes respectively 55 and 82% malformations of the feet. Toe are affected by partial or total soft tissue syndactyly, hypophalangy and infrequently by hyperphalangy. Lateral toes are more severely and more frequently affected by syndactyly and hypophalangy than medium ones. Hyperphalangy is found exclusively in toes I and II and causes the formation of one excess phalanx at most. Syndactylous toes are joined by an overdeveloped digital membrane. Hypophalangic toes have a trun

Congenital metatarsus varus. A suggestion for a possible mechanism and relation to other foot deformities.

The pathogenesis of metatarsus varus was investigated by a series of dissections of 14 normal feet of stillborn or infants who died during the perinatal period. The deformity could not be produced without the surgical incisions described below. A valgus position of the hindfoot was produced by maximal dorsiflexion of the foot. The deformity of the fore part of the foot could not be produced even by extreme traction on the tibialis anterior tendon even after capsulotomy of the first tarsometatarsal joint. Only extensive capsulotomies in the tarsometatarsal joints distal to the joint of Chopart …

Diabetic foot ulcer photography study: a study within a trial to assess the reliability of two-dimensional (2D) photography for the assessment of ulcer healing in patients with diabetes-related foot ulcers-protocol paper.

BACKGROUND: The primary endpoint in diabetes-related foot ulcer (DFU) trials is often time to healing, defined as complete re-epithelialisation with absence of drainage, requiring clinical expert assessment as the gold standard. Central blinded photograph review for confirmation of healing is increasingly being undertaken for internal validity. The Diabetic Foot Ulcer Photography study aims to determine the agreement between blinded independent review panel members for assessing ulcer healing status in patients with DFUs. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Photographs of ulcers clinically assessed as heal…

Efficacy and safety of a bio-absorbable antibiotic delivery in calcium sulphate granules for the treatment of osteomyelitis in patients with diabetic foot: A randomized, double blinded, controlled clinical study The BIG D-FOOT study.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) is associated with a considerably high risk of incident major amputations, disability and mortality. To assess the effects of a local antibiotic delivery system on the incidence of post-surgical infective complications in patients with DFO. METHODS: This is a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel series, randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed at verifying the efficacy and safety of a local calcium-sulphate bio-absorbable antibiotic delivery (either with tobramycin or vancomycin) in patients with DFO treated with surgical procedures. The tria…
