Novel aflatoxin oxidase CotA alleviates aflatoxin B1 toxicity in broilers by reducing hepatic AFB1 residues and inhibiting oxidative stress-mediated ferroptosis.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a common mycotoxin present in animal feed. This study systematically examined the protective effects of the novel aflatoxin oxidase CotA in alleviating the adverse impacts of AFB1 on broilers. A total of 432 one-day-old Arbor Acres Plus broiler chicks were randomly assigned to four experimental groups. Experimental diets consisted of a control (CON) group fed the basal diet, an AFB1 group supplemented with 200 μg/kg aflatoxin B1, a CotA group supplemented with 5 U/kg aflatoxin oxidase CotA laccase, and a CotA+ AFB1 group supplemented with both 200 μg/kg aflatoxin B1 and

Prophylactic versus selective blood transfusion for sickle cell disease in pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women with sickle cell disease (HbSS, HbSC and HbSβThal) may require blood transfusion to prevent severe anaemia or to manage potential medical complications. Preventive blood transfusion in the absence of complications starting from the early weeks of pregnancy or blood transfusion only for medical or obstetric indications have been used as management policies. There is currently no consensus on the blood transfusion policy that guarantees optimal clinical benefits with minimal risks for such women and their babies. The present review replaces and updates a Cochrane revie

Integrated metabolome and microbiome analysis deciphers the effects of resveratrol and β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyric acid on jejunal function under different protein levels in Tibetan sheep.

Research has demonstrated that resveratrol (RES) and β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyric acid (HMB) promote gastrointestinal health by altering the intestinal microbiome. The present study aimed to evaluate the impacts of RES and HMB on the bacterial community composition and metabolomic profiles of the jejunum in Tibetan sheep. A total of 120 male Tibetan lambs, with an average initial body weight of 16.87 ± 0.31 kg, were randomly assigned to four experimental groups according to a 2×2 factorial design. The experimental diets contained 11.19% protein diet, or 12.69% protein diet supplemented with RES/H

Fluoroless Workflow for Pulsed Field Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation Using the Sphere-9 and VARIPULSE Catheters.

Background: Catheter ablation is the most effective rhythm-control strategy for symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF). A fluoroless approach eliminates ionizing radiation exposure for patients, operators, and laboratory staff and removes the ergonomic burden of leaded protective garments. Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a predominantly non-thermal energy modality with a distinct safety profile, now addressed in dedicated international consensus documents. Several PFA catheters are natively integrated with three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping (3D EAM) platforms and are therefore well suite

The antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects of gentamicin, imipenem, and fucoidan combinations against dual-species biofilms of Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from diabetic foot ulcers.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin production or utilization, leading to severe health complications. Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) represent a major complication, often exacerbated by polymicrobial infections involving Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii. These pathogens, notorious for their resistance to antibiotics, complicate treatment efforts, especially due to biofilm formation, which enhances bacterial survival and resistance. This study explores the synergistic effects of combinin

Is It Safe to Do Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Moderate to Severe Chronic Kidney Disease Patients? A Prospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a common and potentially serious complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, as it induces acute kidney injury (AKI), especially in previously diagnosed chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, particularly in those who also have diabetes. Adequate hydration and using a minimal volume of contrast media are the recommended measures to decrease CI-AKI in CKD patients. A combination of sodium bicarbonate and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) may be a superior strategy for preventing CI-AKI. This study is aimed to evaluate

Interventions for atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare disorder characterised by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia, and acute kidney injury. The condition is primarily caused by inherited or acquired dysregulation of complement regulatory proteins with ~40% of those affected aged < 18 years. Historically, kidney failure and death were common outcomes, however, improved understanding of the condition has led to discovery of novel therapies. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the benefits and harms of interventions for aHUS. SEARCH METHODS: We searched the Cochrane Kidney a
