OBJECTIVES: We evaluated midterm results of Oxford phase 3 unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) in patients with medial osteoarthritis.
METHODS: Twenty-seven patients (24 females, 3 males; mean age 57 years; range 47 to 73 years) underwent Oxford phase 3 UKA with the diagnosis of medial knee osteoarthritis. All patients had primary osteoarthritis but one with spontaneous osteonecrosis. Nine knees were Ahlback grade 2, and 18 knees were grade 3. We report on a 67-year-old lady with multiple sclerosis (MS) who underwent bilateral total knee replacements using a fixed bearing posterior cruciate retaining prosthesis. Having initially achieved a satisfactory result, she developed recurrent dislocations of both knees necessitating bilateral revision surgery. Such complications are not previously described as a sequela of a neurological disease.

Bilateral knee dislocations seldom occur, and fewer than a dozen cases of bilateral luxatio erecta humeri (erect dislocation of the shoulder) have been reported. Here we present the case of a patient who sustained bilateral knee dislocations and bilateral luxatio erecta humeri in a motorcycle accident. Transient neurologic compromise resolved with closed reduction of the bilateral shoulder and left knee dislocations. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a patient with this combination of injuries.

We reviewed 32 knees in 26 patients who had previously undergone arthroscopic debridement for symptomatic osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee. The patients were followed up at a minimum of 11 years following surgery and were evaluated clinically using the American Knee Society Clinical Rating Score. Additional evaluation was performed using the Hughston Scale to include radiographic assessment. The mean American Knee Society Score was 179 (out of 200), indicating good clinical function. The objective of this study was to explore relationships among constants used in musculo-skeletal models predicting torque generated about the knee by the quadriceps muscles. A model was developed and matched to data collected from individuals with spinal cord injury performing quadriceps contractions evoked using neuromuscular electrical stimulation. Management of periprosthetic fractures around the knee is often difficult because of poor bone quality, comminution, and constraints imposed by the existing prosthesis. Locked condylar plates may provide more reliable fixation for these fractures than traditional methods of fixation. Eleven patients with periprosthetic fractures around the knee were treated with open reduction and internal fixation using a locked condylar plate.
