The relationship between food availability and metabolic physiology was studied in groups of free-ranging baboons (Papio spp.) living in the Amboseli National Park and the Masai Mara National Reserve of Kenya. Three groups subsisted entirely on natural forage, while two other groups lived near tourist facilities and often consumed food wastes from these lodges. Rats fed excess vitamin A showed decreased body weight gain and protein efficiency ratio. In rats fed low protein vitamin A level increased in liver but with an associated decrease in plasma. Beer has recently been implicated as the causative agent of contact urticaria and severe IgE-mediated anaphylaxis. However, no allergen from beer has as yet been isolated and characterized. Two major components of 45 kd and 9 kd were detected in crude protein preparations from beer. BACKGROUND: Lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are highly conserved proteins present in a broad spectrum of fruits and vegetables that might represent a novel plant panallergen.
OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate that LTP is an important allergen in beer and that beer LTP cross-reacts with LTP from botanically unrelated plant-derived foods.

We report an infrequent mammographic case in which a gross-calcified lipid cyst evolved spontaneously to form a cluster of pleomorphic microcalcifications which were indistinguishable from those seen in breast cancer. The biopsy performed was consistent with fat necrosis. Ultrasonography of the specimen showed a nodule with mixed echogenicity surrounded by a hypoechoic rim. To our knowledge, this behavior is extremely rare, with only one similar case reported in the literature.
