Mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver is a cystic benign liver mass occurring in children. Diagnostic confusion with hepatoblastoma may arise when alpha-feto-protein (AFP) level is elevated. We report an extremely rare case of mesenchymal hamartoma in an 11-month-old boy. Serum AFP was elevated and fine-needle aspiration biopsy suggested the lesion as hepatoblastoma, so he received preoperative chemotherapy. Results of surgical treatment of 420 patients with echinococcosis of the liver were analyzed. Different early postoperative complications were found in 78 (18.6%) patients. It was established that their development was caused mainly by considerable pathomorphological alterations in the liver parenchyma followed by latent hepatic insufficiency as well as strategic and technical medical errors made in the preoperative period or during operations. Postoperative lethality was 13.3%.

Patients with liver cirrhosis bear a considerable risk of a variety of complications that involve virtually all organ systems. They can be addressed with a wide spectrum of drugs for acute interventions as well as for prophylactic purposes. Colonic composite tumors are uncommon masses composed of endo- and exocrine cells. Treatment is similar to that of adenocarcinomas. We report the case of a 44-year-old woman who consulted for abdominal pain. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed a tumor at the splenic flexure bowel and 2 hepatic nodules, suggesting metastases. Preoperative biopsies confirmed an adenocarcinoma. The patient underwent surgery, which confirmed the CT findings. Opisthorchiid eggs were found in 6 out of 27 (22%) huskies while an ELISA detected antibodies against Opisthorchis felineus and Metorchis bilis in 24 (89%) and 25 (93%) sera taken from these dogs, respectively. All dogs showed an increased activity of glutamate dehydrogenase while aspartate aminotransferase was normal in all samples. Ten weeks after treatment with praziquantel no fluke eggs were found in the faeces from any animal and antibody titres dropped in all animals.

Anatomical abnormalities of the liver are extremely rare. We report a case of a 32 year old female who has admitted with acute epigastric pain and vomiting. Physical exam revealed a mobile mass in right middle abdominal quadrant. Ultrasound and contrast--enhanced CT demonstrated a heterogeneous vascular left mass. Small bowel enema shows left jejunal loops displacement. Surgical findings: twisted, congested swelling, attached by a long pedicle to the liver's third segment. Histological examination showed recent hepatic infarction.
