We investigate the nuclear isotropic shielding constants σ((13)C) and σ((17)O) of isomers of retinoic acid and retinal in gas-phase and in chloroform, acetonitrile, methanol, and water solutions via Monte Carlo simulation and quantum mechanics calculations using the GIAO-B3LYP∕6-311++G(2d,2p) approach. Sol/gel-derived silica gel was prepared at room temperature from tetraethyl orthosilicate precursor. The extracts of Terminalia chebula (Haritoki) were entrapped into the porous silica gel. This research work describes the development of a fast high-performance liquid chromatography method for the simultaneous determination of five important cholesterol oxidation products (COPs). (S)-Naproxen-benzotriazole was synthesized by the reaction of (S)-naproxen with 1H-benzotriazole using coupling reagent dicyclohexyl carbodiimide and 4-dimethylamino pyridine (DCC/DMAP). It was used as chiral derivatizing reagent for microwave irradiated synthesis of diastereomers of penicillamine, cysteine and homocysteine. The diastereomers were separated by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography using gradient elution of triethylammonium phosphate (pH 3.5)-acetonitrile (30-65% within 30 min). The method was validated for accuracy, precision, and limit of detection.

The intrinsically disordered protein α-synuclein aggregates into amyloid fibrils, a process known to be implicated in several neurodegenerative states. Partially folded forms of the protein are thought to trigger the aggregation process. Development of methodologies to assess the safety of reusing polluted organic wastes in soil is a priority in Europe. In this study, and coupled with chemical analysis, seven organic wastes were subjected to different aquatic and soil bioassays. Tests were carried out with solid-phase waste and three different waste eluates (water, methanol, and dichloromethane). Solid-phase assays were indicated as the most suitable for waste testing not only in terms of relevance for real situations, but also because toxicity in eluates was generally not representative of the chronic effects in solid-phase.

The vaginal absorption of a homologous series of ionizable compounds, the 1-alkanoic acids, was studied using a perfusion method with a rib-cage cell surgically implanted in the rabbit vagina.
