Machine learning enabled molecular dynamics-Monte Carlo framework for nanoconfined fluid adsorption.

Nanoconfined fluid is central to many engineering applications such as shale energy production, carbon sequestration, and molecular separations. While classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation provides essential atomistic detail, its prohibitive computational cost severely limits accessible time and length scales. Hybrid MD-Monte Carlo (MDMC) methods accelerate sampling but lack generality beyond their trained conditions. In this work, we introduce an AI-assisted MDMC framework that overcomes this limitation by learning local, conditional transition statistics directly from MD trajectories.

Molecular absorption and fluorescence property prediction via a multimodal consensus model: Winning solution for the Transmittance category of the 2nd EUOS/SLAS Joint Challenge.

The 2nd EUOS/SLAS Joint Challenge was a competition aimed at developing reliable computational models for predicting transmittance and fluorescence properties from the chemical structures of approximately 100,000 compounds. This paper describes the method that achieved 1st place in the blind test of the Transmittance category. Our approach is based on a consensus strategy that integrates diverse predictions from multiple model types, including gradient boosting decision trees, message passing neural networks (MPNNs), and Uni-Mol2, via a weighted ensemble, covering multimodal molecular represen

HNRM: hyperedge neighborhood-based representation for predicting N6-methyladenosine-related regulatory pathways.

BACKGROUND: N6-methyladenosine (m6A), the most predominant post-transcriptional RNA modification, regulates splicing, translation, and decay processes. Its dysregulation is implicated in cancers, metabolic disorders, and neurological diseases. Despite accumulating evidence highlighting m6A as a key player in human pathologies, no previous computational framework has investigated the high-order associations among m6A sites, diseases, and drugs within a unified model. RESULTS: Here, we introduce HNRM, a data-driven approach designed to model hyperedges across these entities. We frame this probl

Joint Trajectory Replanning for Mars Ascent Vehicle Under Propulsion System Faults: A Suboptimal Learning-Based Warm-Start Approach.

This article presents a suboptimal joint trajectory replanning (SJTR) method for Mars ascent vehicle (MAV) launch missions under propulsion system faults. Conventional step-by-step trajectory replanning may fail to make timely decisions, risking mission failure. The SJTR method formulates a joint convex optimization problem of target orbit and flight trajectory after a fault. By applying penalty coefficients for terminal constraints, it adheres to the orbit redecision principles, enabling a concise and rapid solution. To further enhance the convergence and the accuracy of orbit-type determinat

Artificial Intelligence Powered Automated and Early Diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cancer in Histopathological Images: A Robust SqueezeNet-Enhanced Machine Learning Framework.

The growing prevalence of acute lymphoblastic leukemia cancer worldwide underlines the critical need for early and more precise detection to counter this deadly disease. This study presents a robust SqueezeNet-enhanced machine learning framework for automatically screening and classifying histopathological images for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This work employs a deep learning (DL)-based SqueezeNet integrated with three machine learning (ML) models including neural network (NN), logistic regression (LR), and random forest (RF) for diagnosis. Combining DL and ML algorithms addresses the comp

Object geometry serves humans' intuitive physics of stability.

How do humans judge physical stability? A prevalent account emphasizes the mental simulation of physical events implemented by an intuitive physics engine in the mind. Here we test the extent to which the perceptual features of object geometry are sufficient for supporting judgments of falling direction. In all experiments, adults and children judged the falling direction of a tilted object and, across experiments, objects differed in the geometric features (i.e., geometric centroid, object height, base size and/or aspect ratio) relevant to the judgment. Participants' performance was compared

Intrinsic Noise Improves Speech Recognition in a Computational Model of the Auditory Pathway.

Noise is generally considered to harm information processing performance. However, in the context of stochastic resonance, noise has been shown to improve signal detection of weak sub- threshold signals, and it has been proposed that the brain might actively exploit this phenomenon. Especially within the auditory system, recent studies suggest that intrinsic noise plays a key role in signal processing and might even correspond to increased spontaneous neuronal firing rates observed in early processing stages of the auditory brain stem and cortex after hearing loss. Here we present a computatio

Bidirectional propagation of low frequency oscillations over the human hippocampal surface.

The hippocampus is diversely interconnected with other brain systems along its axis. Cycles of theta-frequency activity are believed to propagate from the septal to temporal pole, yet it is unclear how this one-way route supports the flexible cognitive capacities of this structure. We leveraged novel thin-film microgrid arrays conformed to the human hippocampal surface to track neural activity two-dimensionally in vivo. All oscillation frequencies identified between 1-15 Hz propagated across the tissue. Moreover, they dynamically shifted between two roughly opposite directions oblique to the l

Deep Belief CNN Feature Representation Based Content Based Image Retrieval for Medical Images.

Avascular Necrosis (AN) is a cause of muscular-skeletal disability. As it is common amongst the younger people, early intervention and prompt diagnosis is requisite. This disease normally affects the femoral bones, in order that the bones' shape gets altered due to the fracture. Other common sites encompass knees, humerus, shoulders, jaw, and ankles. The retrieval of the AN affected bone images is challenging due to its varied fracture locations. This work proposes an effectual methodology for retrieval of AN images utilizing Deep Belief CNN Feature Representation. Initially, the input dataset

A cognitive brain-computer interface for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are often based on the control of sensorimotor processes, yet sensorimotor processes are impaired in patients suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We devised a new paradigm that targets higher-level cognitive processes to transmit information from the user to the BCI. We instructed five ALS patients and twelve healthy subjects to either activate self-referential memories or to focus on a process without mnemonic content while recording a high-density electroencephalogram (EEG). Both tasks are designed to modulate activity in the default mode netw

Altered temporal variability-based functional reorganization of brain networks predicts motor outcome after stroke.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic functional connectivity (FC) studies have shown that motor recovery after stroke was associated with functional reorganization of brain networks. However, most previous studies have focused on interregional variability rather than the temporal variability (TV) of specific regions or networks. TV quantifies the dynamic reconfiguration of a region's or network's functional connectivity profile over time and reflects neural flexibility. PURPOSE: This study investigated functional reorganization in chronic subcortical stroke using TV of brain networks derived from resting-stat

Support Vectors Machine-based identification of heart valve diseases using heart sounds.

Taking into account that heart auscultation remains the dominant method for heart examination in the small health centers of the rural areas and generally in primary healthcare set-ups, the enhancement of this technique would aid significantly in the diagnosis of heart diseases. In this context, the present paper initially surveys the research that has been conducted concerning the exploitation of heart sound signals for automated and semi-automated detection of pathological heart conditions. Then it proposes an automated diagnosis system for the identification of heart valve diseases based on

Combinatorial codes in ventral temporal lobe for object recognition: Haxby (2001) revisited: is there a "face" area?

Haxby et al. [Science 293 (2001) 2425] recently argued that category-related responses in the ventral temporal (VT) lobe during visual object identification were overlapping and distributed in topography. This observation contrasts with prevailing views that object codes are focal and localized to specific areas such as the fusiform and parahippocampal gyri. We provide a critical test of Haxby's hypothesis using a neural network (NN) classifier that can detect more general topographic representations and achieves 83% correct generalization performance on patterns of voxel responses in out-of-s

Comprehensive evaluation and application of tissue clearing techniques for 3-D visualization of splenic neural and immune architecture.

As the largest secondary lymphoid organ, the spleen plays a crucial role in initiating and sustaining immune responses against blood-borne pathogens through antigen capture and delivery. It is innervated by both autonomic and sensory nerves, which allows for neural modulation of its immune responses. The intricate spatial structure and precise coordination between immune and neural components are essential for proper splenic function, necessitating three-dimensional (3-D) imaging to reveal its architecture. However, the dense fibrous capsule and exceptionally rich vasculature of the spleen pos

Diffusion MRI reveals amyloid plaque-associated cellular signatures through spatial transcriptomic integration.

INTRODUCTION: Amyloid plaque deposition is a defining feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD), yet how plaque-associated cellular alterations are reflected in noninvasive imaging remains unclear. METHODS: We integrated high-resolution diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) with spatial transcriptomics (ST) in an AD mouse model. Spatial correlations were assessed across the whole brain and in disease-control and plaque-non-plaque comparisons. Neural network models were trained to predict AD-associated cell types from dMRI metrics. RESULTS: dMRI metrics showed moderate spatial correlations (r

Experimental and ALO-optimized machine learning interpretable models for pharmaceutical adsorption onto raw bentonite.

Pharmaceutical contamination of aquatic systems poses an increasing environmental concern due to the persistence, bioactivity, and incomplete removal of these compounds by conventional wastewater treatment processes. This study investigates the adsorptive removal of three structurally distinct pharmaceuticals: ketotifen fumarate (KF), doxycycline hyclate (DXC), and nystatin (Nyst), using raw bentonite (RB). By combining batch experiments with an interpretable machine learning (ML) framework, adsorption kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics were evaluated. Additionally, four Ant Lion Optimi

Artificial neural network data fusion-mediated dual-mode sensor based on Fe3O4@PdIr for Salmonellatyphimurium detection in food.

Salmonella Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) is a major foodborne pathogen that poses a serious threat to public health. In this study, a colorimetric/electrochemical dual-mode biosensor assisted by artificial neural network (ANN) was developed for the sensitive detection of S. typhimurium. Fe3O4@PdIr nanocomposites with enhanced peroxidase-like activity and electrochemical performance were prepared and conjugated with an aptamer specific to S. typhimurium to obtain Fe3O4@PdIr-Apt. Through the sandwich binding of Fe3O4@PdIr-Apt and Apt to the target, the nanocomposites were attached to microplates
