Barriers and facilitators to condom use among People Who Inject Drugs in Georgia: A qualitative study guided by the COM-B model.

People who inject drugs (PWID) are at a heightened risk of contracting and transmitting HIV due to shared needles and unsafe sexual practices. Evidence on what shapes condom use among PWID in Georgia is limited. We conducted qualitative study among PWID recruited from two harm-reduction organizations in Tbilisi and Samegrelo between June-August 2025. Interviews were guided by the COM-B framework and analyzed thematically. Reduced sexual pleasure emerged as a dominant capability-related barrier to condom use. Knowledge of risks, benefits, and where to obtain condoms supported condom use, althou

From syndromic management to diagnostic-led management: a report from an expert meeting on introducing sexually transmitted infection testing in low-resource settings.

INTRODUCTION: Syndromic management remains the primary approach for identifying and treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in low-resource settings. While faster and inexpensive, it leads to overtreatment, undertreatment and missed opportunities for surveillance. Recent advances in point-of-care (POC) diagnostic technologies for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis and other STIs present new opportunities to improve STI management. METHODS: In September 2024, the Gates Foundation convened a 3-day expert meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together 44 gl

Budget impact analyses of hemoglobin A1c and lipid panel point-of-care testing with Afinion™ 2 in Canada and Italy.

Aim: Screening and monitoring of diabetes or dyslipidemia frequently involves a multi-step process requiring patients to obtain test requisitions from their primary care physician (PCP), followed by a laboratory visit and re-consultation. Point-of-care testing (POCT) for hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and lipid panel can streamline the patient care pathway. This study assessed the budget impact of introducing Afinion™ 2 POCT (Abbott Rapid Diagnostics) from the Canadian and Italian societal perspectives. Methods: Budget impact models were developed for Canada and Italy over a 5-year time horizon (2025

Pharmacists' experience with patients suspected to be addicted to over-the-counter codeine and their attitudes towards potential remediation strategies: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Croatia is one of the European Union (EU) countries where low-dose codeine products (LDCP) can be purchased over the counter (OTC) directly from community pharmacists without a prescription. The misuse and dependence potential of OTC LDCP have raised growing public health concerns. As the first point of contact for patients seeking these medications, pharmacists play a critical role in identifying misuse and implementing harm-reduction strategies. However, little is known about the experiences and perspectives of pharmacists in Croatia regarding codeine addiction. This study aimed

Medication Adherence to Direct Oral Anticoagulants: Extent and Impact of Side Effects.

PURPOSE: Arterial and venous thromboembolism are a leading cause of mortality. Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are highly effective in both stroke prevention and prevention of venous thrombotic events. Medication adherence is a prerequisite for optimal protection against thromboembolic complications. Recent studies have shown that good adherence cannot be taken for granted by DOACs. In this cross-sectional study adherence among DOAC users was investigated and associations between beliefs about medication, perceived side effects and adherence were explored. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included
