A Large Adnexal Tumor Caused by Enterobius Vermicularis Mimicking Malignancy.

Enterobius vermicularis usually causes trivial infections in the juvenile population. However, its extragenital presentation in adults is relatively rare. We present the case of a 64-year-old female suffering from poorly controlled diabetes and lower abdominal pain. CT scan showed a large tumorous expansion of the lower abdomen, mimicking malignancy. Perioperative findings revealed a large adnexal tumor adhering to the rectum. In addition, the histological examination uncovered a mixed inflammatory infiltrate with multiple surrounding eggs of the parasite and granulomatous reaction in the left

Position of the Spanish Menopause Society regarding the management of perimenopause.

Perimenopause is an imprecise period in woman over 40 years of age, which comprises the time between the moment that the first changes in the menstrual cycle appear and the year following the definitive cessation of the menses. Besides irregular bleeding, many women also complain of hot flashes and other characteristic symptoms of postmenopause. Moreover, most of them are concerned about the future impact that these events may have on their health, such as needing health exams or continuing to use contraceptive methods. A panel of experts from the Spanish Menopause Society has met to establish

Continuous hormone replacement therapy with estradiol valerate and chlormadinone acetate in adjustable dosages. A preliminary study.

A group of 62 peri- and postmenopausal women suffering from vasomotor disturbances and a variety of other symptoms were treated with estradiol valerate and chlormadinone acetate continuously using an adjustable dosage regimen. They obtained complete relief from vasomotor symptoms. The continuation rate was 81% after 1 year. In 18 patients the dose had to be adjusted because of breakthrough bleeding (n = 12), mastodynia (n = 3), and for the prevention of bone loss. In 11/12 patients breakthrough bleeding could be stopped by adjusting the dosage. This regimen seems to offer a more flexible appro

Real-world chemotherapy use and survival outcomes in postmenopausal HR+/HER2-breast cancer with low genomic risk (RS ≤ 25): a multicenter cohort study from China.

The RxPONDER trial established that adjuvant chemotherapy does not confer survival benefit in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2-negative breast cancer, 1-3 positive lymph nodes, and a low 21-gene Recurrence Score (RS ≤ 25). Whether these findings have been adopted in routine clinical practice in Asian populations remains unclear. We conducted a multicentre retrospective cohort study of postmenopausal Chinese patients with HR+/HER2-breast cancer and limited nodal involvement who underwent surgical treatment and Oncotype DX testing between 2017 and 2023. Among 385 el

SGLT2 Inhibitors Are Associated With Suppression of the Sema3A/NRP1/Plexin-A1 Signaling Axis in Postmenopausal Women With Type 2 Diabetes: Evidence From Propensity Score-Matched Analysis.

Propensity score-matched comparison of 23 SGLT2 inhibitor users and 23 non-users revealed that SGLT2 inhibitor use was associated with significantly lower Neuropilin-1 (NRP1) levels (74.25 vs. 87.61 ng/mL; p = 0.015) and a higher Sema3A/NRP1 ratio (0.14 vs. 0.12; p = 0.006), indicating functional impairment of the Sema3A/NRP1/Plexin-A1 bone signaling axis with compensatory Sema3A upregulation. Classical bone turnover markers (P1NP, CTX, coupling index) and DXA-derived BMD did not significantly differ between groups. These findings suggest that SGLT2 inhibitors may perturb the Sema3A/NRP1/Plexi

Effects of different types of exercise over 24 weeks on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women: A systematic review with pairwise and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Exercise is a pivotal non-pharmacological strategy to prevent bone loss and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (PMW). While various exercise modalities, such as mind-body (MBEx) (e.g., Tai Chi, yoga, and Pilates), resistance (Re), aerobic (Ae), impact (Im), and multimodal (Multimodal) exercise, can effectively improve bone mineral density (BMD), their effects differ across multiple skeletal sites. This study aimed to compare the effects of different exercise modalities on BMD at multiple skeletal sites in PMW. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane

Bioequivalence of a Fixed-Dose Combination of Relugolix, Estradiol, and Norethindrone Acetate: An Open-Label, Randomized, Fully Replicate Crossover Study in Healthy Postmenopausal Women Under Fasting Conditions.

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign gynecological tumors, often causing heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), anemia, and impaired quality of life. A fixed-dose combination (FDC) of relugolix (40 mg), estradiol (1 mg), and norethindrone acetate (0.5 mg) was developed to address these limitations. This open-label, randomized, two-treatment, two-sequence, four-period, crossover bioequivalence study was conducted in 48 healthy postmenopausal women under fasting conditions. Participants received a single oral dose of either the RELUEASE (Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, India) or the refer

Prediction of imminent osteoporotic fracture risk in Danish postmenopausal women-can the addition of self-reported clinical risk factors improve the prediction of the register-based FREM algorithm?

UNLABELLED: Obtaining accurate self-reports on clinical risk factors, such as parental hip fracture or alcohol and tobacco use, limits the utility of conventional risk scores for fracture risk. We demonstrate that fracture-risk prediction based on administrative health data alone performs equally to prediction based on self-reported clinical risk factors. BACKGROUND: Accurate assessment of fracture risk is crucial. Unlike established risk prediction tools that rely on patient recall, the Fracture Risk Evaluation Model (FREM) utilises register data to estimate the risk of major osteoporotic fr

2024 Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Healthy Bones Australia guideline for osteoporosis management and fracture prevention in postmenopausal women and men over 50 years of age.

INTRODUCTION: This updated guideline replaces the previous Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Osteoporosis Australia (now, Healthy Bones Australia) guideline from 2017. The accumulation of high quality evidence supporting improvements in clinical practice over the past five years, need for expert consensus and opinion, and new developments in pharmacological management of osteoporosis, especially the role of osteoanabolic therapies, prompted this update. The aim was to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to assist Australian general practitioners in managing patien

Analysis of combinatory effects of free weight resistance training and a high-protein diet on body composition and strength capacity in postmenopausal women - A 12-week randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Menopause has a significant impact on the endocrine system of middle-aged women, resulting in a loss of skeletal muscle mass (SMM), changes in fat mass (FM) and a reduction in strength capacity. Resistance training (RT) and a high-protein diet (HPD) are effective methods for maintaining or increasing SMM. This study aims to determine the effects of HPD and RT on body composition, muscle thickness and strength capacity in postmenopausal women. METHODS: In total 55 healthy postmenopausal women (age: 58.2 ± 5.6 years, weight 69.1 ± 9.6 kg, height 166.5 ± 6.5 cm) successfully particip

Computed tomography-based paravertebral muscle density predicts subsequent vertebral fracture risks independently of bone mineral density in postmenopausal women following percutaneous vertebral augmentation.

BACKGROUND: The risk of subsequent vertebral fractures (SVF) after the primary vertebral fracture cannot be explained by lower bone mineral density (BMD) alone. Computed tomography (CT) measurements of paravertebral muscle density (PMD) are recognized radiographic markers used to predict physical function, fragile fractures. AIMS: This study aims to investigate the relationship between PMD and the risk of SVF in cohorts of postmenopausal women, and to determine if combining both PMD and BMD measures derived from CT can improve the accuracy of predicting SVF. METHODS: This study enrolled 305
