Ankyloblepharon-ectodermal dysplasia-clefting (AEC) syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by ankyloblepharon (congenital adhesions of the eyelids), ectodermal dysplasia, and orofacial clefts. We used positron emission tomography (PET) and the 18-flourodeoxyglucose tracer to study cerebral effects of complementary acupuncture in Parkinson's disease. Electroencephalographic studies have demonstrated smaller auditory responses to infrequent deviances of speech and nonspeech sounds in dyslexic than normal-reading subjects. We used a whole-scalp neuromagnetometer to study selectively reactivity of the auditory cortices to sound deviances in 8 dyslexic and 11 normal-reading adults. We describe a 61-year-old patient who compulsively rubbed her hair and her scalp because of a psychiatric disorder. Permanent rubbing resulted in fracturing of the hair shafts, leaving 2 cm long hairs and areas with stubs of 1mm length, giving the impression of bald spots. The distal ends of affected hair shafts were split, giving the impression of white tips. Light microscopy of the hair shafts showed split, brush-like ends of otherwise normal hair. We suggest the name trichoteiromania, which means "compulsive rubbing of hair", as a new term to describe hair loss in such cases.

BACKGROUND: Epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) is a chronic subepidermal blistering disease that is frequently resistant to therapy.
OBJECTIVE: A 58-year-old man who had a one-year history of a bullous eruption involving the hands, forearms, trunk, scalp, and oral mucosa. Among 56 established cases of multiple sclerosis in our clinic from April 1978 to March 1985, optic neuritis was found in 38; 21 cases were bilateral. We studied pattern-evoked potentials detected with 16 electrodes placed on both the scalp and the facial area. This preliminary report describes a new method of treating bilateral cryptorchidism that may modify the need for surgical intervention. Four of five boys (3 1/2, 3 1/2, 7, 11 and 12 1/2 years of age) given hourly subcutaneous pulses of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH, 10 to 100 micrograms/day, given in a 3-min pulse every hour) showed evidence of testicular descent after 3 to 19 weeks. The battery-operated, programmable syringe driver was well tolerated by the boys, and the daily insertion of the scalp-vein needles was managed at home by their parents.

We present the case of a 95-year-old female patient who presented with erosions and scarring of the scalp, accompanied by long-term hair loss. Due to multiple comorbidities, she was treated with several medications, including zolpidem for insomnia. Clinical examination revealed scars and ulcers in the parietal region, along with diffuse age-related hair thinning. Histopathological analysis demonstrated scarring alopecia with features of local trauma. A 47-year-old man who presented with scalp hair loss was transferred to our dialysis facility 3 months after hemodialysis initiation. He noticed systemic hair loss one month after the initiation of dialysis. Because the antipruritic drug nalfurafine was the only drug that had been newly added to his regular medication after he started hemodialysis, we stopped its prescription. Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus characterized by well-defined erythematous plaques with adherent scales and follicular plugging.
