A preoperative decision algorithm for reverse shoulder arthroplasty in complex proximal humerus fractures in the elderly.

BACKGROUND: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) has become the standard surgical option for managing complex proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) in elderly patients. Despite its widespread use, postoperative functional outcomes remain inconsistent, and patient selection criteria are not well defined. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted including 117 patients ≥75 years who underwent rTSA for Neer 3- or 4-part PHFs between 2012 and 2023 at a single tertiary hospital. Preoperative clinical and epidemiological variables were recorded, including Charlson Comorbidity Index, Ame

A maternal and child health administrative cohort in Scotland: the utility of linked administrative data for understanding early years' outcomes and inequalities.

INTRODUCTION: The early years are considered one of the most impactful points in the life course to intervene to improve population health and reduce health inequalities because, for example, both ill health and social disadvantage can track into adulthood. Scotland's outstanding systems for data linkage offer untapped potential to further our understanding of when and why inequalities in child health, development and wellbeing emerge. This understanding is vital for the consideration of policy options for their reduction. METHODS: Birth registrations, hospital episodes, dispensed community p

Retrospective Matched-Pair Cohort Study on Effect of Bisegmental Fenestration versus Hemilaminectomy for Bisegmental Spinal Canal Stenosis at L3-L4 and L4-L5.

Impairments particularly occur during walking, standing, and sitting. Thus social and vocational activities are increasingly restricted, causing considerable suffering for patients. Surgical therapies are superior to conservative ones. This article studies the outcome of 2-level fenestration versus hemilaminectomy for bisegmental spinal stenosis decompression. Methods This retrospective matched-pair cohort study included a tota

Internet-based individually versus group guided self-help treatment for social anxiety disorder: protocol of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most common mental disorders and causes subjective suffering and economic burden worldwide. Although effective treatments are available, a lot of cases go untreated. Internet-based self-help is a low-threshold and flexible treatment alternative for SAD. Various studies have already shown that internet-based self-help can be effective to reduce social phobic symptoms significantly. Most of the interventions tested include therapist support, whereas the role of peer support within internet-based self-help has not yet been fully understood.
