This paper reports the comparative study results of perineural and epineural techniques in facial nerve (FN) transection injuries of 16 rabbits. We found little difference in recovery of FN function and histology between epineural and perineural repairs. Both epineural and perineural sutures on FN have not yet solved the problem of misdirection growth of nerve fibers. The authors report a series of five markedly atopic patients in whom a severe sclerokeratitis developed within 1 to 4 weeks of keratoplasty. The onset was acute with discomfort, photophobia, hyperemia, and mucus production. Here, we present a case report detailing a pseudoaneurysm of the coronary button due to aortic remodeling that occurred 2 years after aortic root replacement. The patient was referred to our hospital with a diagnosis of left coronary artery pseudoaneurysm. Intraoperative findings revealed substantially loosened sutures in both the left and right coronary arteries with bleeding. An excised canine larynx model was used to study the effects of variable suture tension on glottal configuration and on vocal fold tension (at the midfold and the vocal process). BACKGROUND: Knot tying is a key surgical skill for novices, and repetition over several training sessions improves knot tying. This study examined the effects of repetition within a single training session on quality of knotted loops and compared results of novice trainees and experienced surgeons.
METHODS: Using 0.55 mm nylon monofilament fishing line, novices and surgeons each hand-tied 20 knotted loops, using a 2=1=1=1 configuration (surgeon's throw and three square throws). Loops were mechanically tested with a single load to failure.

An 81-year-old woman was seen with a suture granuloma 7 years after medial canthal tendon tightening. One end of the suture extended through the inferior punctum. Excision of the granuloma and suture without retightening the canthal tendon resulted in relief of the purulent discharge and foreign-body sensation and no recurrence of epiphora.
