A common finding in progressive osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb is ligamentous laxity. In patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which is a disorder characterized by generalized ligamentous laxity, splinting and arthrodesis have been recommended because of the random results achieved by other reconstructive procedures. We report a patient with thumb carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis secondary to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome who was treated with bilateral arthroscopic tendon interposition arthroplasty.

Between 1996 and 1999, we evaluated 286 patients with chronic heel pain. We identified 14 patients who were diagnosed and surgically treated for a unique combination of plantar fasciitis, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction and tarsal tunnel syndrome. Avulsion injuries of the radial wrist extensors are rare. We present a case of simultaneous ipsilateral avulsion of the extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis tendons resulting from a fall on an outstretched upper extremity. At the time of surgery the tendons were found retracted and not attached to avulsion fragments. Both tendons were repaired with the aid of suture anchors within 24 hours of the injury. After surgery, the patient regained full function with some loss of grip and wrist extension strength.
