The purpose of this investigation was to determine if a relationship exists between anxiety and skin diseases. It was hypothesized that subjects wtih different dermatoses would have different anxiety levels. Of ten patients with Reye's syndrome, there were five with stage II or III coma where EEGs revealed 14 c/sec positive bursts in a background of diffuse delta waves. The relation between a specific infective event (shigellosis), a specific disease entity (Reiter's syndrome), and a specific histocompatibility antigen (HL-A B27) is documented by follow-up study of an epidemic of post-Shigella Reiter's syndrome.
