Antiretroviral therapy has dramatically increased the lifespan of people living with HIV (PLWH), but advance care planning (ACP) and hospice services are underutilized in this population. The purpose of this study was to understand barriers and facilitators to ACP among this group. Iliopsoas abscesses (IPA) are uncommon, with an associated mortality rate of up to 20%. We describe the case of a 55-year-old man war veteran who presented with an unusual cause of IPA secondary to retained foreign body (FB). PURPOSE: This presentation exhibits a case report and review of multiple reported cases of hyperemic optic disc swelling in patients with diabetes. After excluding all other known causes of optic nerve insult, this pathology has typically been labeled as diabetic papillopathy.
CASE REPORT: We offer a case of a 65-year-old veteran with unilateral hyperemic optic disc swelling, presenting with minimal optic nerve dysfunction. After an extensive evaluation to rule out other causative pathology, this patient was diagnosed with diabetic papillopathy.

The search for the cause of the large outbreak of severe pneumonia that affected attendees of a convention of war veterans in Philadelphia in 1976 was complicated by a number of factors.
