Mapping death literacy in the East of England: A cross-sectional survey with qualitative insights to inform public health strategy.

BACKGROUND: Death literacy can act as a public health asset that enables individuals and communities to navigate end-of-life care with confidence and competence. It encompasses knowledge, skills, experiential learning, and social action. In the United Kingdom, low levels of death literacy may hinder equitable care and contribute to avoidable harms. AIMS: The study had three aims: (i) to assess death literacy in the East of England using the Death Literacy Index (DLI) to inform applied policy research; (ii) to explore sociodemographic and experiential factors associated with DLI scores; and (i

Evaluating the tailored implementation of a multisite care navigation service for mental health in rural and remote Australia (The Bridging Study): protocol for a community-engaged hybrid effectiveness-implementation study.

BACKGROUND: A dramatic decline in mental health of people worldwide in the early COVID-19 pandemic years has not recovered. In rural and remote Australia, access to appropriate and timely mental health services has been identified as a major barrier to people seeking help for mental ill-health. From 2020 to 2021 a care navigation model, Navicare, was co-designed with rural and remote communities in the Greater Whitsunday Region of Central Queensland in Australia. The Exploration, Preparation, Implementation and Sustainment (EPIS) framework was used to design and guide multiple aspects of a mul

Aboriginal-mainstream partnerships: exploring the challenges and enhancers of a collaborative service arrangement for Aboriginal clients with substance use issues.

BACKGROUND: Partnerships between different health services are integral to addressing the complex health needs of vulnerable populations. In Australia, partnerships between Aboriginal community controlled and mainstream services can extend health care options and improve the cultural safety of services. However, although government funding supports such collaborations, many factors can cause these arrangements to be tenuous, impacting the quality of health care received. Research was undertaken to explore the challenges and enhancers of a government initiated service partnership between an Abo

AI-driven virtual standardized patients combined with scenario-based simulation in anesthesiology training: a randomized pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Anesthesiology trainees require repeated opportunities to practice perioperative crisis recognition, decision-making, communication and teamwork, which are central to crisis resource management (CRM) and non-technical skills. High-fidelity simulation supports these competencies but is resource intensive to deliver repeatedly. AI-driven virtual standardized patients (AI-VSPs) may complement simulation and structured debriefing by enabling interactive practice and feedback. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, randomized, three-arm pilot study among 60 students enrolled in a profess

Inertia or unanticipated bottlenecks? Exploring stakeholder perspectives on the implementation determinants of the national alcohol policy five years post-enactment in Zambia.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use accounts for a huge proportion of the global burden of disease, and many countries grapple with its severe negative social and health consequences. In 2018, Zambia adopted a national alcohol policy with the aim to reduce the prevalence and impact of harmful alcohol use. However, five years post-adoption, the policy implementation has been slow. This study sought to explore the implementation determinants of the national alcohol policy five years post-enactment in Zambia. Implementation determinants, a concept from Bullocks theoretical framework, refer to the enabling an

Predictors for spontaneous pleurodesis in patients with indwelling pleural catheters for malignant pleural effusion: a safety net hospital experience.

BACKGROUND: Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) affects approximately 150,000 patients in the United States each year and usually signifies advanced-stage cancer. The optimal treatment remains a challenge but indwelling pleural catheters (IPC) offer several advantages and may help achieve spontaneous pleurodesis (SP) in some patients. OBJECTIVES: We aim to investigate the predictors of SP among patients with MPE, particularly in a resource-limited community-based safety net hospital. DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study done at a community-based safety net hospital. METHODS: Adults dia

Impact of Different Aquaculture Densities on the Growth Performance and Intestinal Health of Triploid Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Fry in High-altitude Environments.

The high-altitude regions of the Tibet Autonomous Region possess abundant cold-water resources, with annual average water temperatures suitable for culturing triploid rainbow trout. However, environmental challenges-including low atmospheric pressure, hypoxic water conditions, and significant diurnal temperature fluctuations-necessitate precise optimization of stocking density. Inadequate densities result in suboptimal resource utilization, whereas excessive densities induce chronic stress, leading to suppressed growth, reduced survival, and intestinal microbiota dysbiosis. Currently, research
